Normal count for red blood cells is between 4.5 and 5.5. Red blood cells primary function is to carry oxygen to parts of the body where it's needed. An elevated or low white count is what would indicate a health issue. White blood cells fight off pathogens and 'remember' how to kill different infections that you're exposed to; they're the backbone of your immune system. Red count is only significant in relation to the white count and/or platelette count.
