impetigo is a very contagious skin infection....when my child contracted it I treated it with a betadine wash to keep it from spreading and an ointment...bactroban....cleared up pretty fast...here's some more information on the topic....

yes...it is spread by contact ...so if a finger touched the serum or liquid secreted by an impetigo lesion then it is logical that it would start on a finger.
