I am looking to get a tattoo representing my husband and myself (our relationship). I want something that means love, complete, fidelity, married...you get the picture. I am hoping for a unique design/symbol- I don't want hearts, roses, suns/moons, yin yangs.

I am of german descent, and he is french and native american. I don't know if there are any cultural symbols that would represent those things?

The tattoo is going on my foot or ankle, so it should be sort of small. I don't care if it is color or black and grey.

OK...I would suggest, since it is to be small, a dream catcher (in black and white)....inside the catcher two stones, one your birthstone color and one his birthstone color. You said you did not want hearts but it would be nice if there was a small heart in the center. I am part Native American...the dream catcher says it all. BUT....NONE of us on here can determine what you want..I just had a white tiger put in the small of my back...not a small tiger....I thought of the design and waited over 5 years to find the perfect tatt and the perfect tatt artist.....Make sure you KNOW who is doing this tatt REALLY WELL. ONLY YOU will know the design when you see it. Since it is going on your ankle I am assuming this may be your first...talk to other people in your area and find a licensed tattoo artist...yep it makes a difference...good luck I waited years to get my first and 10 yrs after that I know have three...the cat being my last(it is awesome). I'd suggest a claddaugh, though it's Irish in origin. It's a pair of hands supporting a heart with a crown on top. The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love, the crown represents loyalty. I see that you don't want hearts, but it's something to consider.

Perhaps a German Shepherd Dog? Loyalty, fidelity, love, etc. As for your husband, perhaps a wolf to symbolize his Native American heritage? If you had the two together or maybe one on one foot, one on the other (or his symbol on your foot, your symbol on his?).

I'd suggest either another placement or an artist who's experienced with working with that area of the body, as some people have had problems with infection (though not as common as you'd think) and the ink healing out/fading.

Go original! Talk to an artist and bring some pictures and ideas with you and let him/her draw something up for you. Originality is the best and stay far far away from Kanji.
