It depends on the man... I know many men who chose to bring up adoption to their wives because they want to make a difference... most other men are selfish and don't want other people's "problems"....

My husband brought up adoption to me in addition to having our own children... and I have a few male friends who are also planning on adopting once they get married.

So its not all men....

I believe guys prefer to have biological children. It's a macho thing. There really is no reason for it because if you adopt a boy, he'll still carry your name on. I guess guys just want their genes carried forward.

Guys shouldn't dismiss adoption - there are a lot of wonderful children needing homes. They are most appreciative of their adoptive families (providing you are not abusive or anything) and even if one day they search to find out more about their biological parents, they will always consider you Dad. So don't hesitate to adopt.

I think it just takes them a bit longer to come around....We as women, have that maternal instinct. They as men, have an instinct to "sow their seeds". It's more of a pride thing.

With my husband, it helped to attend adoption forums where we would openly talk with other adoptive couples about our experience with infertility, etc, and why adoption became our option.

In the beginning, it was the women who were talking the most, but eventually, as each guy started to talk about his feelings, you saw light bulbs go off in the room as other guys realized that they were a "part of a group" or had something in common with the other guys. It was truly helpful. I would highly recommend attending meetings hosted by adoption agencies in your area, it will help!

I think it has something to do with their egos. It makes them feel inadequate in some way. It took my parents 10 yrs to decide to adopt when all else failed. And my dad and I are really close and have always been that way. But today there are classes out there and he will just have to be open to it and it will make him feel alot better to see other men in the class with him. Good luck and Adoption is Awesome in my book!!

Well not all men are against it, but I guess some men can't live with the idea that it is not their offspring! Some men can take another mans child and overlook that fact and only see the child, like the old saying anyone can become a father, but it takes a special person to be a dad!

Because it's a male thing about leaving behind a legacy and continuing your bloodlines. A man wants to leave a piece of himself behind, not just his ideas and values. Most men will eventually come around if there is no other way, but most won't ever really like it.

some reasons might include resposibility

lack of privacy as opposed to not having kids

financial considerations since couples with kids have less money usually cuz of money for the kids things and school, etc.

things like that usually

could be worth it I think if the kid is nice and if the adults are up for the challenge
