I don't think Jesus existed in the way portrayed in the bible, and certainly the bible is not a history book or an autobiography of Jesus.
The early Rabbinic record of the Jewish faith , a document called "Dialogue with Trypho", written by St Justin Martyr circ 160 AD recorded what is basically an argument that Just Martyr had with a Jewish man called Trypho. In this document, Trypho mentioned a "groundless report" and also clearly and unequivocally stated the early church had "invented" Christ. In the famous Ante-Nicene Library can be seen this passage that reads " "But Krist, if he has indeed been born and exists anywhere is unknown...And you, having accepted a groundless report, invented a Kristo for yourself."
I am sure I could fill several pages with other references that question the historical accuracy of the life of Christ, but the point is, that belief in the concept, the teaching and practise of true Christianity is ultimately good, the fact that it is based on a lie is fundamentally irrelevant.

No, I'm not 'stupid' (and I have an 'above genius level I.Q' to prove it ... 186) ... but I am 'faithful' ...
I doubt you have a 'clue' what being 'faithful' means to a religious person. 'Faith' is when you see something wider and deeper than the Grand Canyon, and you are 'right at it's edge' and you just 'close your eyes' and believe and take one step forward. You're on the other side now, but the view from this side is only 'a line in the sand.'
Further, I do believe that Christ was God ... but he was also human. FULLY GOD and FULLY HUMAN. Please note that I used the name 'Christ' (the anointed one) rather than Jesus ... 'Christ' was what Jesus WAS, not his last name, by the way. He was 'anointed by God' to do his 'mission' on earth ... which was to 'teach a few people' in one corner of the world, and then to 'die on the cross for the sins of ALL of the people in the world.' Not just the Jews in Jerusalem, not just the Romans 'in power' but ALL PEOPLE THROUGHOUT TIME. He did this 'for us' but he didn't make it 'easy' to just say 'I believe in Jesus Christ' and be 'saved.' He made it really very, very difficult ... but you may never 'know' how difficult, because you can't take that 'step' over the 'line of faith' because all you can 'see' is that it's deeper and wider than the Grand Canyon ... and you can't really 'see' anything about 'Christ' until you make that step across to 'the other side.'
I'm not saying that you are 'stupid' and I don't even think that you are 'condemned to burn in Hell', if you can't bring yourself to 'believe' in Christ the way I do. If you are a 'good person' (and as a dental student, you are already in a 'doing good' profession) and you don't 'do evil' in the world, then I'll see you in Heaven ... and I'll have 'tea and cookies waiting,' and we can sit down and 'discuss' this question some more.

Simply put there are only three options:

1. Jesus was a delusional or insane liar.
2. Jesus was a purposeful charlatan attempting to grab power and influence through a new religious order.
3. Jesus was who He said He was.

We can eliminate number 2 since most charlatans aren't willing to die for their ruse. He had a number of chances to back out of it before being crucified.

Number one can present challenges, but most likely, were Jesus insane or delusional, his message would have been inconsistent and disjointed like Muhammeds.

That leaves the third option as the most likely. Jesus was who He said He was. We have eyewitness accounts that he was physically dead (Roman guards of the Tenth legion don't lie about their work). We have eyewitness accounts (over 500 followers) seeing Jesus AFTER his death as a flesh and blood being. That's a pretty strong case even if you eliminate the notion of Faith.

Let's see...I have a master's degree, do you?
I also know several doctors, theologians, lawyers, philosophers, university profs, Father Hessburgh, and many other intelligent people who do. Oh, and one of my college profs spoke 13 languages fluently.
Let's see....in every culture throughout the world people believe this (USA, europe, Africa, Asia, Austrailia, Mexico).
Wait, didn't Einstein also believe this, as did CS Lewis?
Are you honestly saying that everyone of these people are stupid?
Oh, Jesus also said he was God, allowed others to worship him as God, & was killed because the Jews thought his claims of deity were blasphemy.

Boy, you really made yourself vulneralbe by calling all of these people stupid.

Response?

You have to choose to believe something. Jesus was a historical figure...that is fact. What remains is whether you choose to believe He was what He said He was (God), whether He was a liar (because He's not what He said He was), or insane (because He believed He was something He wasn't). Read both Biblical and secular historical sources and make your own decision, but calling people stupid only makes you appear uneducated and intolerant yourself.

'coz theire parentes teach them that Jesus was and is God..
actually, people who belive this, are very stupid (don't be offended)..
it's written in the Bible that God is God and Jesus, is his son, not him self! it's also written that God is a spirit, he don't have bones, and we cannot see him, while Jesus is a man, infact he had a mother, and people could see him..
if you want to know more about the truth, find the "church of crist" in your or near your city..

People are ready to believe anything even if it means clinging to a truth that goes against all their common sense. If you have ever tried to argue with a Christian about the un-realistic stories of the Bible you notice they have no answer, they'll simply say "You just have to have faith". Well I personally feel that I am intelligent enough to question something before investing my faith and energy into it. And if there are no conclusive answers, then count me out. Be realistic people.
