My son has recently become "always hungry". He isn't a fruit and vege lover. I'd need some ideas of healhty snacks. Either already store made foods or snacks I can mix together. Any crackers or cookies that are low fat yet tasty. Somthing I can through together fast. Or put together and put in my purse if I have to pick him at up at school and go somewhere for awhile.

I'll looking not just for the usual snack ideas but for some unusual ones. Are there things that your children like to nibble on that other kids don't like?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Yogurt, cheese sticks, fruit roll-ups. He's probably going through a growth-spurt. Try to stay away from refined sugars. Don't give him anything diet-y, there are artificial sweeteners that kids shouldn't ingest. Go to a health food store and check out granola.

You have to find at least a fruit he likes , their has to be one. Cause compared to veggies fruit's are sweet, (nothing you don't know though) How about those cheese and crackers snacks. Parmesan on triscut ( not exactly sure that's how you spell it) crackers and put it in the oven for a couple of minutes. Keebler has these buttery crackers that are really good and if you want serve them with cheese or peanut butter. Pollo cheese sticks and cracker barrel now makes cheeder cheese to go. When your out Mc donalds sells apple dippers apples sliced for kids without the skin's that comes with carmel dipping sauce.

Boxes of raisins,, you sure he won't eat celery with peanut butter????,

I could trick mine into a nice 7grain bread, low fat p-butter and sugar free jelly sandwiches.. they thought they were getting away with something :)
the small bottles of gatorade are great.. kids burn off electrolites really fast.

When I buy a block of Low fat cheese.. I used to give one of the kids the cheese slicer and that was there project while I was making dinner.. they had to slice it up. the slices all went in a zip loc. Then I always had it already sliced and ready to go with a handful of crackers for snacks.

General mills has coome out with the healthier fruit roll-ups
But I still think that it's too much, so I always cut them in half for the grand kids.

Sunkist makes some real fruit snacks.. they are pretty good and my son loves them. They have some that are made like strings and sour and there are some nuggets too. But they may be small to him as a snack.. my son is 5. He likes the 100 calorie snack packs of cookies. There are good cereals out there that make good snacks as well.

i know a lady who has a son when he was around 12 he became always hungry. he didn't like eating fresh veggies either. so mom started peeling the string off the back of celery and cutting it inti small sticks of a 1 bite size. then she introduced ranch dressing . this went over so big he asked for carrots as well next time . and has been a veggie lover ever since. ranch is best because it is a bit sweet. oh and be sure to sneak up and snitch a couple yourself.

Some of the things I give my kids are sandwiches (turkey, pbj, tuna, grilled cheese), carrot sticks with ranch, cup of noodles, spaghetti O's, Ritz with meat and cheese, cheese quesadillas, celery with peanut butter inside, apple wedges with peanut butter, and the list goes on. I like to give them somewhat healthy snacks. Sometimes I give them a couple cookies on the side of their snack.

Bake several bags of muffin mix at one time. They freeze well. When he gets home from school, a few seconds in the microwave will fix him up or carry them with you. Individual sized popcorn is a good choice too. I also love the homemade trailmix idea.

theres a show on the food network called "good eats", and i just saw an episode on making your own energy bars, protein bars, granola bars, etc. they were all dirt cheap, and really good for you. most of their shows put all the recipes on their website.

the host is alton brown, and if you do a search on their site, you'll find all kinds of cool recipes from him.

also, you could make salsa! every boy likes nachos, and if yo make the salsa yourself, its nothing but veggies! tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. theres a billion types, and its easy to do. get the non-salted chips, and you're doing even better!

No sweets, as it spoils the dinner. Try goldfish snacks, snack size pringles, cheese nips, pretzel sticks.
