Silly isn't it!

One occasion, I sent an e-mail to a person who always, without fail, would come to see me almost right away.

I started playing a game. I would send the e-mail (and believe me only if it was absoultely necessary) then count the seconds to see how long it would take the person to come to my office. She would hot foot it to me as though the back of her sweater was on fire. I kept her track record.

LOL

P.S. Nothing you can do about it.

provide cut-off dates on your mails. Ask the question, etc and then on the tip say "i will want a reaction via date X please". whilst they do no longer respond, write yet another digital mail asserting "i actually want a reaction, i could have the money for some extra hours in this one, so please get lower back to me via the tip of the day". communicate this with your supervisor for permission first, yet whilst the guy nonetheless does not respond, forward the digital mail history in question on your supervisor, and cc the two the worker and her supervisor besides. There desires to be a customary checklist of a nasty habit in the previous a supervisor can discipline an worker.

I know it might be annoying but email delivery can be unreliable sometimes and also it's useful to speak to people in real time BUT if you send an email they ought to recognize that you didn't want to speak to them on the phone in the first place and respect that. In that sense they are calling even though they know it will annoy you, just to satisfy themselves.

Basically they want to cover all bases, incase you weren't on your desk, or are too busy to check your e-mail that instant, they think a phonecall is a quicker way to get ahold of you. Perhaps they are just impatient as well :). Or maybe the matter is really urgent for them :).

I used to have a boss like this. I think some people are more verbal in how they communicate, and written communication just doesn't count for much with them. Very irritating for someone who does read and write effectively, and doesn't want to be bothered with the phone call!

People want everything spelled out for them so they don't have to do their own thinking. It's a precaution against having to take responsibility for our own flub-ups. It's most likely to happen in the work place because most of us are more scared of our bosses than we are say, our spouses.

First ask them if they know how to start their computer. Then ask them if they can read.
In the case they send you e mail and then call, do the same. Tell them that you can read and that it is easier for you to read than to listen to them!

In any case, have a long drink close to you! Office eco system is asking for it.

Because some people are just stupid and they don't read. Same as when your computer gives you a dialog box with ONE option to click "OK". People still ask "What should I do?" Well, there's only ONE option. Click "OK" already. Geeezzzz ;)

Email is so impersonal. Perhaps they want to hear your sparkling voice.. or perhaps they failed reading comprehension miserably in grade school.
