Basically, you have to be free of a criminal record, be at least 21 years old, go through a thorough background check, show that you have a general knowledge of your weapon, and be able to qualify with it. If you can do this, in most state, the CCW is fairly easy to get.

Depends on your state. States like Vermont you only need to be able to own a firearm legally to carry a concealed weapon, there is no license or background check. Other states make you take a test while some won't issue a license at all.

And not all states will honor out of state licenses. Be careful. If you don't know the laws, don't carry.

First do the state application, take the fingerprint cards and get printed. Try and find and agency that has the AFIS system and not the ink. The state constantly sends those cards back and they all have to be redone. On AFIS they can fix the problem fingers. Then take the required courses from a licensed instructor, take the test results and your print cards then send them to the state..............From then it is a waiting game.

Here in Ohio you have to take a two-day gun course (which costs about $120) and after that you have to fill out an application, which costs another $45 or so.

I know because my husband is jumping through these hoops.
