I have very straight and shoulderlength hair. As I would like to have some more volume and some waves or curls to the hair would it be a good idea to have a perm?

In response to the first answer given, I'm not sure if you know that for white people a perm means to put curl. For black people the term perm is used for making the hair straight.

Now, if you decide to get a perm to add volume I would recommend that you go with a very loose perm. If you go with a tight perm then your hair is going to coil up really short and look terrible. If you don't want to chemical stress on your hair just try using a curling iron with a large barrell or a round brush while blow drying your hair. For more volume on the top of your hair, hold your hair up and use a very light spray of hair spray at the roots. Allow it to dry a little before you let your hair back down. You can also try using volumizing shampoos. Good luck!

Hallo,
DON'T DO IT!!!
I did perm few years ago and it completely damaged my hair. It was very beautiful in the beginning but after like 1 month i start completely loosing my hair and spent lot of money on medical shampoos. If your hair is straight, it will not give it much more volume, in addition that it will not look nice without the gel or mousse anyway. I recommend that you use mousse or gel or irons or extension to give volume for your hair.
Good luck!

If you want one go ahead but the fair warn is that it does damage your hair. If you get a perm get a mild one because the really curly ones will make you have super short hair and are harder to maintain.

Why not if this is really what you want to do. If you decide to have it done though, have a professional do it so it will look good., otherwise you may be sorry if someone ruins your hair and you end up having to have your long hair cut off.
Good Luck.
