i have a old computer so it doesn't have firewire or anything fancy all it has are Usb ports. How Long will it take to transfer a 60min video to my computer using the usb port? How long will it take using firewire?

60 minutes. The movie has to record onto the PC while it is playing real-time from the camcorder. I hope you have about a 200GB hard drive...

I don't know if you can hook it up with USB...most software, Windows XP movie maker included, requires firewire. A FW card takes about two minutes to install, and is recognized by XP. It only costs about $20, too.

It takes the same with both. IT's in real time. 60 minutes of video transfers at the same rate 4 MBPS, but the USB might cause drop frames because it's maximum rate is 4MBPS while the FireWire is 25 MBPS.

There are USB to FireWire cords, don't know how well they work.

If it's an old analog camcorder you can get a capture card PCI slot from Dazzel or Turtle Beach or a lesser quality (9 bit not 10 bit) USB dangle from Turtle Beach and use the Yellow, Red and White RCA cords.

DV video is transferred in real-time, so 60 minutes would take 60 minutes to transfer. Any loss is in the quality, not time. However, most DV cams don't support USB transfer, so the best thing to do is to go to a local electronics store and get a PCI firewire adapter card for around $40-$50. Even if your cam does support USB transfer, you'll get better results this way. Hope this helps!
