I am looking to buy within the next two weeks. My 200 malibu has fallen apart and before that I had an 89 Thunderbird. This will be my first new car purchase and I would like to spend no more than 16,500. I live in texas so severe weather isn't really an issue. I was considering the Yaris before the CR auto issue came out and it wasn't recommended. My father, who has been researching with me, is leaning toward what he considers the more reliable Corolla. I like the sport model of the fit. I will move probably multiple time in the space of owning this car and the versatility of the back seats seems like a big plus to me. The Corolla will probably be easier to purchase and probably end up being less expensive.

They aren't really in the same class. The Corolla competes with the Honda Civic, and the Fit competes with the Toyota Yaris.

If you are looking at cars in the same class as the Corolla then you should be looking at the Civic not the Fit.

Honestly they are all excellent cars. Honda and Toyota are both tops in terms of quality and reliability.

From personal experience Honda's tend to lean more towards sportiness and Toyotas lean more towards comfort.
The corolla will be softer and more squishy while the Civic would be a bit tighter and firm feeling. Some people would rather cruise along and not feel any bumps, while others would rather have a little bit of feedback from the road. It's personal preferance.

I am biased however as I actually own a Fit. I love it, it's one of the best cars I have ever driven, even if it's a little on the slow side. The Magic seats are the most useful feature you can imagine. The car is so versatile. It's no wonder Car and driver picked it for it's one of it's 10 best cars of 2007. IT's also one of the top 10 greenest cars and a Consumer Reports top pick for economy cars.

The Corolla has stayed pretty much the same for awhile now; not because Toyota is trying to save money, but because it is that good of a car. There is nothing that needs to be changed yet. It is very standard, and nothing special, but it is a consistently excellent car. (look at the higher models as they tend to save you money compared to buying a couple extra safety features on the low model).

The Fit is in the new class of cars that are targeted toward people who are willing to pay more money to get less car as long as its prettier. Nothing is wrong with it, just know that youre paying for style rather than function as with the Toyota.

I have a Corolla for work (company car). I drive ALOT. Although it is great on gas mileage (about 38 miles to the gallon), it tends to be very uncomfortable for rides of an hour or longer. Good starter car and probably would be a good car for someone that is looking for something cute and easily maintanable.

Not too bad in the snow as long as you have good tires.

I personally would not have bought the Corolla if given the choice. It's a Toyota which is the only thing going for them.

Good luck with which ever you choose!

I would buy the Honda. hands down. I own a 2006 Toyota and the thing is a lemon.( I have had it into the dealership 9 times in the past year) i have had nothing but problems and getting Toyota to fix a problem (if one should come up with yours) is like pulling teeth. I will never buy another Toyota again. Hope this helps with your decision.

I couldn't find a comparison between the two cars you mentioned, but I did find a page with lots of comparisons between the 2007 Corolla and a bunch of other cars. Thought it may help. The comparisons are on the right-hand side.

if you want quality, take toyota. new honda only offer 3 years or 36,000 miles warranty compare to toyota 6 years or 60,000 miles warranty. this indicate honda knew their cars will not last more than 3 years. so if u have some spare money that you want to throw away, take the cheap made honda

Hold on...I'm gonna go look at them....

Okay, both are nice but I like the Fit as it is more useful. Both have good reviews and the price is surely right. Now I want to go to Honda and look at them for real. Good luck.
