Yes, but for the sake of my friends who are teachers, I would say that 'helping' should not be 'doing for them'.
One of my friends has had such a problem with parents doing the homework for their kids that they had to send home a friendly note saying that she can tell the difference between work done at school and work done at home. If she thinks that the parents are doing the work for their kids, she will have to give the child a zero for the work. In her class, the kids would not do any work at school, take it home, say it was homework, and their parents did it for them. They then would fail miserably on tests because they weren't really learning anything.
So, help by all means, but make sure that the kids are learning the material and not simply trying to get out of doing the work.

Always!
It the parents job to teach their children the basics such as reading. We read with our gr 1 and gr 3 children every night.
The school can only do so much in way of teaching. I see school as more of a pre-work training- scheduled and authorative.
Teaching your kids to learn can be fun. Teaching them can be done in so many ways (your own field trips, learning aids, games and some TV shows, etc.). Helping with homework is just another way. It also shows you take an interest and care about what they are learning. Encourage it!

Nope, my parents didn't I graduated 3rd in my class without them. I don't plan on helping my kids either. Helicopter parents are weakening kids. If a parent helps a child on their work how is a teacher going to know what the child's weakness is. Kids need to know that mommy and daddy aren't always going to be around to fix their mistakes.

My children don't go to school yet, but we have a time every single day that we practice our letters and so forth. I want my childrent to succeed in life, therefore I will make the effort to help them learn. Also, it shows I care and that I am interested in them. Children need that. They won't try to do well, if you don't care, why should they?

Of course its a way to interact with them and to aslo make sure they do it right...you should always help your children with their homework...if not they will pull the "I already did it card" knowing you wont check and a week later you recieve a note saying "Your Child Has NOT been doing their homework" lol so yes definetly

Yes help not do for them. If you don't help them I guarantee they will fall behind because they move entirely to fast in school now only spending a couple of weeks on one thing before moving on to the next. Math especially. if you want your child to have a good foundation you better be helping them learn how to do it.

Absolutely! My wife and I work part time, so that we can both spend time with our kids ( I have 3 kids). We try to spend as much time together as possible. Homework is great time, to learn about your kids school interests, dislikes, and also learn new things.

We have a first grader, a second grader, and a fourth grader. We only assist with homework when it is directly requested. We look over the homework, but do not help with it always.
