I believe the original intention of religion was to provide a basis for everyone to live life & help their fellow man, but as years went by people thought they could do it better so they branched off & created their own sects & separate religions.
Some religions are definitely about scaring you into believing that if you do not do something you'll suffer eternally, but others are about truth, love & tolerance towards your fellow man.
I find it hard to believe that any religion that segregates people and causes hate & intolerance amongst human beings is for a greater good. What kind of religion is it when people are considered a "disease" if they are different? What kind of religion is it when you cannot even trust the ones who preach it & practice it on a daily basis?
The messages that the religions attempt to convey is a message of love, and charity & peace.... but the original messages behind religion have become diluted with the fear of brimstone & fire & eternal damnation.
Praying to a god & telling everyone who doesn't do the same that they are wrong & will burn if they don't believe the same thing as you is not being a good human being.
Whenever any groups of people try to force themselves upon anyone else who doesn't feel the same way... that is when you have big problems. The spanish inquisition.... the holocaust.... just to name a couple..... They're all about people who believed their ways were the right ways... the ONLY ways & they wanted to force their views on the world.
Religion is just another thing to separate the world. The sooner we realize that the sooner we can disband this ancient practice & join together to make ONE race... the HUMAN race.
John Lennon had the right idea. He was a visionary. If only there were more people like him, i believe this world would be a more peaceful place.

I think the bible was written by man based on events that happened in that time. It would be like that stuff happening today and writing about it but nobody does because nobody would believe them. So why should we believe in that back then? Jesus probably did get resurrected, which would explain reincarnation and maybe it happened then to show that he was a teacher of God. There are many teachers of God today. I just think it is all about love and spirituality within yourself. I don't think it matters what religion you have as long as you believe we are here to learn about God and love. I agree with you as far as people creating their own opinions about religion and then critisizing others for their beliefs. Those people will have a rude awakening I think. Why would God create us just to believe one thing, the bible, which was created years and years after humans even walked the Earth, and then if we don't believe we get punished?? I don't think so. I think life has NOTHING to do with the bible at all. Just being a good person in your heart is all that matters and learning for God in this life and each life thereafter.

I'm not a religious person at all but I really wanted to answer this question.
I agree with you to point. I think that the bible is a book of
stories and examples which where supposed to help people understand things. I feel that the Bible's message is about how 'man' can over come struggles and how forgiveness is an important part of over coming problems.
The funny thing is that most wars have been started because of religion, and if people look at religion a lot of our basic beliefs are all the same, and we are share the same notions on forgiveness.
I think that people will always interpret the bible the way they want to interpret it, and if people want to use it in a negative way, they will twist it.
I don't on the other hand think religion is all about division. We live in such a secular society that religion does not have so much importance to people (particularly in the west). A lot of our morals and values are derived from religion, and in a time when people focus so much on dividing themselves, religion I think sometimes acts in communities as a social glue, and gives people faith that there is future and hope.
Marxist say that religion is the opium for the people. Well then there are a lot of people smoking it then!

Hum...I feel...
Okay I believe in God but no longer in organized religion. Like you I can see its place in society and I understand how it can provide some people with hope but a lot of it is hypocritical and it divides us from different groups.
In terms on the bible- Obviously not literal otherwise we'd all be sinners (!) but if taken as a fable/moral code it kind of makes sense.
I think my relationship with God does not need to be defined by my birth into one or another religion.I am on more of a personal spiritual journey- making the most out of myself and understanding my role here on earth.

I am a Non-Denominational Christian. We believe that the Bible is GOD's Inspired WORD and that it should be read, studied, and obeyed by all. We follow the New Testament Scriptures and follow the examples given for the First Century Church that was founded as a result of the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. HE was GOD's only begotten SON. Denominational Churches are a result of man's wanting to place his ideas in Christ's Church on Earth. We have no right to do so. The Apostles gave us GOD's Inspired WORD so that we would know exactly what was supposed to be done in service to our FATHER in Heaven. Have a great weekend.
Thanks,
Eds

HEY! That's MY answer to your previous "god, religion, adam & eve (True/False)" question! You took it word for word! You copied & pasted my message into your own question! At least start it with "I agree with what dave says" in the beginning instead of trying to make yourself look smarter with someone else's words instead of using your own.
Give credit where credit is due, bro!
p.s. It's BIBLE, not BILBE!
p.s.s. Thank you for giving me credit! lol

I agree. I think that the part about God, hell and heaven have all been thrown in to make sure that people take it seriously.

God, Bible 100% true.
Religion....it depends.
What really matters is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

all religion is failed philosophy. I would call it failed science if they had put forth more effort. reality is actually rather deep and quite mysterious, without being hokey.
