Reading is great for you. But make sure you do it in good lighting. Reading in the dark can be really bad for you. And make sure your eye site is good. . . trying to read without glasses if you need them can be bad and weaken your eyes too. But reading is a good thing to do for you eyes and your mind.

You cant damage your eyes by looking at things, though if youre straining to see clearly you may need glasses.
There is something called the Bates method that utilises CBT and eye exercises to restore clear vision, basically it involv es relaxing your eyes when somethings out of focus so the muscle of the lens can correct itself. Ive tried it a bit and it works pretty well.

It might be good exercise short term, but long term, because reading is at close range and in relatively small print [historically, writing was written in one-inch font to begin with] it does weaken your eyesight. (According to doctors.)
I read several books a week and I know my glasses keep getting stronger......

Just sounds like your one eye is a bit short sighted. With both eyes you can see fine so no need for glasses. Bates method and eye exercises have never helped anyone - they are jsut a persistent myth.
