So, my 4 month old pug girl is an indoor puppy, but while shampooing carpets I chained her outside with her bed and food, etc. My mom walked outside to find that she had climbed onto a fouton outside and was hanging from the back of it on the chain lifeless. She immediately picked her up and unchained her and yelled for me. When put down, the pup was breathing and is acting okay now, just scared of everything. Is there any way that she could have lasting damages is she's acting fine now? She was only outside for about 2 minutes so I know she wasn't hanging there long

Hi there - I am the owner of two pugs and a german shepherd puppy. First off, if you haven't gotten her into the vet, do it NOW!!!! Get used to taking your pug to the vet - they are WONDERFUL dogs, but VERY expensive to take care of. I would also STRONGLY suggest "pet insurance". The things that make pugs so wonderful (the wrinkly face, the buggy eyes, etc.) also makes them VERY prone to various health problems. I have had to pay $1500 for eye surgery for one of my pugs.
Second - in regards to getting her less fearful, the trick will be time and patience. As a puppy, she is learning what things are "good", what things are "bad", and what things she needs to stay away from because they will hurt her. You will need to change her belief about the things she has associated as things that will hurt her (unless, of course it IS something she should stay away from!) Take the thing she is afraid of and put it close to her. For instance, if she is afraid of the leash because that is what "hung her up", lay the leash near her and play with her and the leash. Let her investigate the leash and give her lots of treats and praise when she gets near it. Don't worry if she runs away at first. This WILL take time. Then, attach the leash to her collar (but don't pull on it yet). More treats and praise. Then, pick up the leash. If she doesn't freak, more treats and praise. See what I am getting at? Time, patience and TREATS!!!!!
Third - pugs are VERY mischevious dogs. . .and they are VERY smart!!!! If there is something they shouldn't get into (or on, or through), they WILL do it!
Fourth - be careful about chaining your pug outside. They overheat SO very easily (even in 70 degree weather) thanks to that adorable smooshed face. Pugs get heatstroke VERY easily (much more quickly then most breeds) and many pugs die of this every year. Make sure if you ARE chaining her outside, it is cool enough and you have LOTS and LOTS of cool water for her.
Lastly, don't beat yourself up too much. EVERY pug owner makes mistakes. Two weeks after we got our first pug puppy, my husband stepped back and broke her foot! She survived, and we learned that pugs are VERY quiet when they want to be. We got her a jingly collar to wear.
There is a wonderful free website for pug people. It's called the Pug Village and its web address is www.pugvillage.com. LOTS AND LOTS of people go on there to talk about their pugs, post pictures, and ask advice. Chances are, ANY problem you encounter, someone there has already gone through it. The people there are REALLY nice!

Good luck with your pug!

Oh my. I have been through a similar situation, came home and found my dog who I had chained up out back to keep her from jumping th fence had somehow gotten hung. She survived and I was so grateful. My heart was in my throat for days.
I will say, I did not notice any serious consequences. But boy did I make sure that when chained there was no way for her to get hung up and then I trained her like crazy to not run off.

Watch for weezing or constant sneezing like sound that could be a crushed windpipe. I would take him to have a quick look over at the vet to put my mind to rest then I would go to walmart and get one of those ties you screw into the ground that way you can make sure there isn't anything close to being around for the pup to get into trouble with.

She should be fine since it was for only about 2 mintues. But, just to be sure, you should take her to the vet for a little checkup and tell them what happened. They will most likely check her throat and neck to make sure that there is no damage. I am glad your mom got to her in time...That must be one lucky pup!

Have you not had her to the vet for a check up yet?!? Get her in! She could have damage to her trachea or neck, or organ damage because she was deprived of oxygen.

While she was hanging no blood or oxygen was sent to her brain, so she could have some other serious problems. Please take her to the vet and have her looked at, at least call the vet and tell them what happened and see what they say.

god i bet you were terrified,
i'd take her to the vet for a check up but if you haven't noticed any changes in her behavior she's probably fine..

She's probably just shaken up. Please be mindful of this in the future. It happens many times, especially with puppies and terriers that are brave jumpers.
