Actually it trips the Generator if "Differential Protection" acts. Say if protection fails what will happen and what are the effects.

The question is not very clear. Whether the generator is operating alone or connected via generator transformer, the capacity of the generator, the importance of the generator w.r.t the power system, what are the other protections provided for the generator etc are needed to answer this question. Also do u need only to know the effect of failure of the differential relaying i.e. the effect of short circuit in a generator ??

It will simply burn the generator core, insulation and coil. The damage may be so extensive that you will need lot money and time to repair.

Back-up protections are provided to generator in case primary proction fails to clear the fault.
