Someone posted a question the other day about making sirloin for dinner and another person gave her a recipe for a marinade that calls for dark beer. I want to try that marinade but we don't drink dark beer and you can't just buy one beer. Does anyone have an alternative to using the dark beer? He really wants sirloin for his birthday dinner tonight and I want to surprise him with something different. Thanks!

You can use just about any kind of beer and yes you can buy single bees from most liquor stores.

I have a different recipie that doesn't have any beer in it that is absolutely delicious.

1 bottle hawiian teriyaki sauce
1/2 red onion finely diced
1/2 red bell pepper finely diced
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
5 cloves garlic minced or 1 Tbsp of garlic powder
1 Tbsp fresh cracked black pepper
1 cup vegetable oil

Place all ingredients into a sauce pan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 5 additional minutes. Let cool and pour into a tupperware container or large zip lock bag and add the steak.

Depending on the cut will determine the length of time you leave it in the marinade. For a sirloin I would marinade it for minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 2 hours.

I hope this helps you on your steak making venture.

Using the dark beer in a marinade is going to be a totally different taste from drinking one straight from the bottle. Just try the recipes as it and give the other bottles to a friend who does drink it.

Do you have any wine that's gone bad?

When wine goes "off" it is, in fact, turned into vinegar. at that point, it makes a great and flavorful marinade. Soaking the meet for a day or two works best. Be sure to pierce the meat to let more flavor in.

Italian Dressing is a great steak marinade. I use it on chicken and pork as well. Very simple but adds a wonderful flavor to the meat. With so many different varieties of Italian dressings these days you can try many different flavors.
