He is really my sister-in-law's boyfriend. They have been together about 4 yrs. His name is Chris. Anyway, this past Christmas we were at my father-in-law's house. Chris was drinking some long island ice teas. He was fairly drunk. He went out to his car to move it further up into the driveway to make room for more people to park. He scraped his side mirror on the back side of my truck bed. It left a good size dent and lots of black marks. He came inside laughing and told me about it, but I thought he was joking. A week later, I noticed the damage! Now all this time has passed, and no one has brought it up again. I want to trade in my truck fairly soon for a newer one. This damage will likely lower the value. Should I ask him to take responsibility for this or just take care of it myself? Has too much time passed? We all go camping together a lot during the summer, and I consider us close.

If you are close then you should be able to talk about it hand him a bill. He is responsible not only did he get behind the wheel drunk he hit your car. He is lucky that someones kid didn't run outside as he was backing up. The point is not if the damage would lower the value as you know it will the real issue here is he has not made any effort to apologize for what he did nor offer to repair your car. What kind of guy is he?

I dont know how you didnt see it for a week, I know I would've gone right out and looked!!! Does he own a vehicle? If so his insurance should pay it -- although I wouldn't mention the 'beverages'. Just say you didnt notice it for quite some time and then were in a quandery as to what to do. His insurance will call him and ask him if he hit your car. If he admits it they will pay your repairs, but do it today!!!
If he denies it , I would ask him if he'd prefer you involve the police in the matter. I'm sure he' ll call his insurance company and see that your truck is fixed!!!

yes,you should ask him He's responsible for it.If he doesn't want to pay it then tell him you will take him to small claims court. If a stranger done this to you're truck you would make them pay with no hesitation. If you're sister's boyfriend had any morals he would offer to pay for it hisself. If he agrees to pay like in payments make him sign a letter of agreement that explains the accident and how much money he will pay you back to get it fixed after you get estimates. This way if you have to take him to court its all on paper.

they should in no way have enable youcontinual it if it wasn't insured. That become rather stupid and this is their very own fault. Now that I have been on condition that off my chest, cause them to teach you the itemized estimates, he ought to truly have not got any problem with that if he's being honest. good success and next time, make optimistic that's insured!

TALK TO HIM ABOUT IT. BUT DO IT IN A WAY THAT SHOWS THAT IT BOTHERS YOU TO EVEN BRING IT UP. BUT YES HE DID THE DAMAGE AND I THINK HE SHOULD PAY. THE TIME THAT PASSED DOSNT MATTER. THE FACT THAT YOU WANT TO TRADE IT IN ON A NEW ONE SHOULD BE AN OPENER FOR THE CONVERSATION
