I believe the original intention of religion was to provide a basis for everyone to live life & help their fellow man, but as years went by people thought they could do it better so they branched off & created their own sects & separate religions.
Some religions are definitely about scaring you into believing that if you do not do something you'll suffer eternally, but others are about truth, love & tolerance towards your fellow man.
I find it hard to believe that any religion that segregates people and causes hate & intolerance amongst human beings is for a greater good. What kind of religion is it when people are considered a "disease" if they are different? What kind of religion is it when you cannot even trust the ones who preach it & practice it on a daily basis?
The messages that the religions attempt to convey is a message of love, and charity & peace.... but the original messages behind religion have become diluted with the fear of brimstone & fire & eternal damnation.
Praying to a god & telling everyone who doesn't do the same that they are wrong & will burn if they don't believe the same thing as you is not being a good human being.
Whenever any groups of people try to force themselves upon anyone else who doesn't feel the same way... that is when you have big problems. The spanish inquisition.... the holocaust.... just to name a couple..... They're all about people who believed their ways were the right ways... the ONLY ways & they wanted to force their views on the world.
Religion is just another thing to separate the world. The sooner we realize that the sooner we can disband this ancient practice & join together to make ONE race... the HUMAN race.
John Lennon had the right idea. He was a visionary. If only there were more people like him, i believe this world would be a more peaceful place.

I see that you have listened to many of the things people say?
And you are right in some of the things you think. One mistake that you do make is that you put the history book in as a unbelievable book that bible thumpers use?, the problem is that they don't use it. All the things that they say is mixed with lies or teachings of men, this causes people to doubt the history book.
The book is not a scientific book, but it is not out of agreement with science? For example the flood of Noah's day? Where did all the water come from? See Gen 1:6 Think about this and be reasonable. The earth was found to be round in the 1400's See Isa 40:22, ( 4000 yrs ago)To use logic and common sense, and to be reasonable is all man can do. There is a middle road that keeps people from making the mistake of being extreme in either direction. We have become what we fill our minds with. It does not require an education to become wise. gemhandy@hotmail.com

What is your point...that we should just do away with all Christians...the Bible should be burned...no good can ever come of it...the writers of Genesis did not know any different son...like other writers of ancient history all they had to go on was possibly some broken writings and stories passed down from generation to generation. Again...what is your point...you have not convinced me to stop believing in God.

I am a firm believer of the Bible. There is no thing of superstitions. How do you know that you should not steal or thou should obey your parents or you shouldn't give false witness(lie) If they weren't commanded in the first place. God set forth commandments to live by. And if you read the Bible, you would see that God did Kill several for their disobedience. That is why I am so thankful for Jesus who died for us, to give us chance after chance to get it right.
I am convinced that God has mercy and grace to keep us from perishing away like in the old testament.

I compeltely agree. Religion is just a get away from the world to explain the phenomea of death. It corrupts everyone who follows it, turns people into stereotypes, and breaks friendships and starts wars.

There are truths drawn from the creation stories--the stories may not be literal, but the messages are still important.

the big bang is possible, but God made it if it is. since it was a burst of energy, and God is the scource of all energy. but after the world was made, He made Adam and Eve, as humans in the garden, not apes, or whatever. and God is realy, and you should be happy that He is also, infinately merciful, if you repent!

Adam and Eve were true...God is not only true He is real. Religions can come or go...some are true and some false,
I don't go thumping people with my Bible but it's true you can't convince me otherwise...But its because I know TRUTH, His name is Jesus.
