I've always been naturally blonde, but in my early twenties my hair started to darken naturally to a darker, mousy, dirty dishwater blonde. Not pretty. So I've been colouring back to my natural light golden blonde for several years. The last time I visited my hairdresser, she used bleach for the first time and it ruined my hair and it looks 20 times worse than when I was colouring it myself from a box. I think blonde definitely suits my complexion and my brows are golden blonde, but I am afraid that continuing with the blonde is just too damaging- my hair is literally like straw and the irony is, the only way I can make it look good and smooth is by blow-drying and using a fat-iron, ultimately causing more damage!

I have a medium to pale peachy/pink complexion and greenish blue eyes. Can I, and should I, go brunette, and if so, how dark and what shade? (If it helps, cooler shades of blonde always got me more compliments).

I should point out that a year ago, I actually got darker low lights on the under layers of my hair with light blonde highlights. Everyone, including my hairdresser, agree that that look didn't work for me. Too middle-of-the-road. Too safe. I asked around for various opinions, and everyone seems to agree that there's something about me that begs for extremes: extremely light or extremely dark. I also am not a fan of several colours in my hair. I really look better with one colour. I don't know why!

I would suggest doing hi and low lights....oh but first find another stylist...not someone just off the floor (just out of school) another option is to possible color all over and then go back in and and put some more highlights in.....they can use kaledicolors in the beige tone to lift the color a little to brighten it up. If it were me though I would just opt, for highs and lows....the amount that is being colored can be controlled better......just go to a upper scale salon to have it done.

You also need to deep condition your hair at least once a week to start with.....you can do this at home by using your conditioner and leave it on.....then wrap your hair in plastic wrap....but don't wrap your face (suffocation) put towels in the dryer to get hot.....then put those on your head.....the heat opens the cuticles of the hair...which your are already oped due to damage......but allow that conditioner to get in deep. allow that to stay on till the towels cool, and rinse your hair With cool water....the cool water shuts the cuticle down and traps the moisture in.
hope this helps

It never hurts to try out new colors, especially when a new season is approaching! Give yourself a fresh, new look for spring. If you've noticed lately that highlights are moving out and rich full all over color has made its way in. You really don't want to go too dark b/c you don't want to drown out your face. I would go about a shade or two darker than your natural hair color. If your hair is fried due to the over processing, there really isn't much else you can do than whack it off (and I do mean your hair). Nice healthy hair looks a lot better than dry, brittle, straw-like hair. And if you must use a blow dryer or any heating tool on your hair, apply a spray in conditioner to protect your hair. V05 has a great product just for this. Good luck!
