Welcome to China - my home country!
In Beijing, you should also visit the Summer Palace, the Qing Dynasty Summer resort which is a great combination of imperial architecture and natural scenery; the Temple of Heaven, which is a master piece of Ming Dynasty architecture and the most photogenic landmark; the Hutong Tour where you will take the rickshaw go deep into the old town Beijing and talk with local Beijinger face to face...
In Shanghai; don't miss Zhujiajiao - a thousand year old water town which is also nicknamed " Venice of Shanghai"; I just have some clients came back from Shanghai and told me that their highlight in Shanghai was: Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center...
Regarding shopping, you can try the Silk Market in Beijing if you like bargaining, or you can just wander around on the Nanjing Road to feel the atmosphere, it is called the #1 shopping street in Shanghai!
Of course, it all depends on your interest and time. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me through our website: Jia@Jiasdreamtours.com

For shopping, Shanghai is better. Lots of places to buy electronic stuff (but buyer beware, they may not be cheaper than in the US). Check our Xujiahui or Hong Kong Plaza (near Huangpi Station exit, line 1).
In Beijing most people also visit Tiananmen Square.
