All 3 of these motors are from the 335 Series of engines. Alot of stuff will interchange, Alot of Stuff Won't interchange. 351M/400's have a different bore for the Main bearings, this prevents the interchange of crankshafts between the 351M/400 and the 351C, However you can use either a 351M or a 400 Crankshaft in a 351W (does require some minor machining) This also causes the connecting rods and pistons to not interchange. Camshafts- DO interchange as well as Lifters but the pushrods are different. the 351M/400 have a Taller deck height that requires longer pushrods. The cylinder heads will interchange (will also interchange to the Windsor family of engines special pistons/intake required) but the intakes will not, Again the taller deck height creates a wider valley in between the heads a 351M/400 intake will never work on a 351C BUT a 351C WILL work on a 351M/400 if you can find one of the spacer kits that used to be available. (or build your own) Distributor interchanges between all 3 as well as the 372/429/460 engines) Water pumps and oil pumps interchange BUT Oil pans will not. a 351M/400 pan will fit on a 351C but you will have large gaps at the front and rear mains. Gaskets are the Same for all engines. 351M's are purely junk and are only good for a builder core for a 400 which when given the opportunity Ford never gave it is a DAMN good engine with Gobs of low end torque

As was stated in one of the other answers the 351 cleveland was made in the early 1970s. It was generally considered a high performance engine. The 351m and the 400 are related to the 351c but not the same. The 351 C, 351m and the 400 are the same family 335 engine family. The 400 has a higher deck. The 351 m and 400 share the same heads the cranks eill interchange but th 400 has a longer stroke and intake manifold are different. the 351c and the 351m have different bearing diameters.
The 351C uses a 289/302/351w transmision bolt pattern.

Ford made several models of 351 engines. 351 Windsor 351 Cleveland 351 Modified Also a 352 engine in the sixtys. Never heard of a 350 Ford.

the 351c and the 351/400 are different. the 351/400 is also called a 351 modified or 351m. they are both good in their own respects. if your going to use the 351m you might as well buy a 400 crank and make it a 400. if your tight on space you might want to consider the 351windsor, its like a beefier 302, its stronger, lighter, easier to fit into a small car, and parts are cheaper(slightly). if your putting the motor into a fox mustang alot of your 302 parts will fit onto the windsor, nothing will fit onto the 351c or m blocks

I only remember two Ford engines greater than 400 ci.
The 428 was basically a Ford 390 bored out a little greater. It was available in the Thunderbird from 1966 to 1968. It often had a 4 barrel carburator. One Thunderbird came equipped with a special manifold to accept 6 -one barrel carbs on top of the 390ci engine.(1962-3 ??) This was the Thunderbird Roadster.
Then came the redesigned 429 for the larger Fords starting in 1969.
Aftr that.. I lost track of Ford's humongous engines...
The 351 Cleveland was available in Mercury models for at least 10 more years.

351 cleveland is great motor commonly found early 70's in mustangs etc..
351m//400 Is more a truck motor. m is for modified. Overall the engine Parts are not interchangeable.

351 Cleavland , made in Cleavland, Ohio is a race bread engine with 4 bolt mains and power making heads, unlike the 351 Windsor engine made in Windsor, Canada with smaller heads and no 4 bolt mains still pretty good but no match for the 351 Cleavland. the 400 engine was a trk or station wagon low torque engine and not easily made race ready it had a taller deck height giving lower compression ratios etc for Grandma

Like mentioned, the 351C uses a small block bellhousing bolt pattern and the 351M/400 uses the 429/460 bolt pattern.
