Perhaps if there was less social and media pressure on people to be so 'perfect', the world might be a happier place.
That kind of pressure can create a need to comfort eat, making the problem worse and sometimes turning to more drastic measures, like drink, drugs, surgery or even suicide.

No more than I feel sorry for thin people. You may be surprised to hear that there are "fat people" who are happy even though they are overweight. Happiness is not brought about by being an ideal weight.
You say "they do not want to be like that" - actually some do. And there's nothing wrong with that. For those that don't want to be overweight, or who want to change it but can't, then yes I agree with you, it is a kind of illness.

In certain cases i do. Because some people have a very slow metabolism. They may not eat much at all, and still be heavy. I know my sister was always stout, not obese or fat but stout. She inherited my fathers genetics. I took after my mother who could eat all day and never gain an ounce. One meal a day and my sister was still stout. I eat four times the amount of food that my sister eats and I'm thin. She's stout. So I feel that some people have to starve to look slim, and others eat whatever they want. Obese people have mental issues. It's really not about food. It's about a void in their lives they are trying to fill.

It's disgusting how immature, and rude people are these days. Not everyone is fat because they eat all day and don't excercise, some people have problems like eating disorders which is a medical condition as severe as alcoholism, or so what if they happen to like fatty foods isn't that everyone's right.I've seen skinny people eat nothing but fat all day but because they don't gain weight we criticize the overweight person who eats at chips and candy for lunch because they are too embarrassed to sit in the caf and have people stare at them. It's a struggle everyday for most fat people as far as health and even socializing goes. People are cruel to them. There was a time when skinny was unattractive what if things never changed from that and you got ridiculed day in and out for being thin. how many time could you sit through hearing go eat a cookie or a burger before you would feel so miserable about yourself you wanted to die. How would you feel if happened to your child, your partners, or someone in your family. It's not a good feeling, and it's wrong to be so rude to them. You don't need to feel sorry for them but have enough decency to let them live their lives in peace they don't bother you.

Yes, I feel sorry for them. Because most of them are unhappy and they have problems in their lives. They try to find comfort in food and at the end they feel even worse, as we live in a world that only slim, beautiful people count. Their self-esteem is ruined and they seek some peace of mind in food, that is nothing more than a scream for help.
And the majority want to loose weight, but don't know how, so they starve themselves. And that is the best way to gain even more weight.
Without mentioning those that are fat because they have health problems, which are a big percentage.

i feel sorry for fat people because they are force fed the idea that it is unattractive and horrible to be fat. people who are not fat tend to look at overweight people and immediately decide that they overeat, don't exercise and are extremely unhealthy. it is very unfair. it's not an illness though - obesity can be caused by thryoid or hormonal problems, or through other medical conditions. unfortunately most of the time it is caused by low self esteem and depression. when someone in this world becomes overweight, they immediately look upon themselves as unattractive and useless. when you feel like that you seek comfort. i know nothing makes me feel better when i'm down than my favourite foods. the problem gets bigger and bigger until the person can see no way out. Obesity is a huge problem in our society directly because of the negative way in which we see obesity. i'd much rather be a size 20 than a size 4!!! anyday.... and i mean that!

It's not a question of feeling sorry for them (it's a bit judgemental and patronising ain't it?.. well, it depends if they have a genuine eating disorder then yes.. but every time i see a fat person walking by me i don't feel sorry for them.. i don't not feel sorry for them either. Some ppl though are fat simply because theyre lazy and eat too much. Losing weight (given that you don't have any medical conditions or similar) is relatively easy.
Ppl with an eating disorder though will have feelings inside them that they are afraid to talk about or can't control so it's basically a coping method.

Being fat is not an illness. And if people want not to be fat enough then they will achieve their goal. I feel sorry for people who don't understand why they are fat. We have been given so much misinformation about food over the yars that many people genuinely do not realise the mistakes they make in their food choices.

People are fat (and varying degrees of fat) for different reasons.
Some eat too much, and live a sedentary lifestyle - coupled with low metabolism and the kind of body shape they were born with.
Some are in decent shape, but get some kind of illness or injury, which disables them, and they end up putting on weight due to their perceived inability to maintain fitness due to their injury or illness.
Some people eat because they are depressed because they are fat because they eat to much. (Vicious Cycle).
I work with a guy who weighed over 350# - he has lost over 90# so far (he had his stomach stapled) and continues to drop. He still looks chubby (mainly due to body shape - pear like) but he also looks much happier and healthier.
Disgustingly obese people usually have a choice - they might never be thin, but they don't have to eat the entire f'ing extra large supreme pizza, two orders of breadsticks, and wash it down with a 2-liter of pepsi either. I live in TN, and there are some really fat-azzed men and women here.
I can't feel sorry for most of them since I'm feeling sorry for myself for having to see them.
