ok people I didn't say I was driving in left lane and I didn't say I was driving slow i just i don't go extremely fast. in a speed zone of 70 i go about 77-78 on the interstate in the right lane. let me rephrase my wording. instead of slam on brake let me say "tap" my brakes. where my speed breaks and they have to slow up. It is kinda like yeah don't you get over in the other lane.

or on regular road. pass me if i'm not going 100 in a 55 ...do you catch what i'm saying better know??

I also "tap" my brake a few times, not so the car slows, but so the person behind me can see the brake lights flash a few times and get the idea. I am not a slow driver, quite fast actually and i still find people tailgate me, which in NJ where i live is a 5 point ticket.

If you ever get rear ended in such a situation, and the other driver would be able to prove you did not have any real reason to brake, you get a hefty fine or may be even a jail sentence, depending on the country/state yo do this. And rightly so.

This is not to say that tailgating is good, but what you do is much worse.

I don't slam on the brakes because I can't afford to be without my car if they rear end me. However, I do slow down to an extremely annoying speed (like about 10 mph). I can't stand bumper riders either, especially on the interstate.

I'm with you on this one. I HATE tailgaters too, even though I used to do the same thing when I was younger and immature.

Watch out though, if it can be proved that you were the cause of an accident as a result of those actions, you will be sorry.

Always cover yourself by saying you hit the brakes to avoid a dog or cat or weasel or whatever.

I'll slow down until they pass me, especially if there are multiple lanes, or I'll put on my hazard lights so they get a clue that I don't like them back there. If they are too close you risk having them actually hit you and even though it would be their fault, is it really worth your time and potential injury to prove a point?

If I am behind you and I am coming up on you I will put my left turn signal on to let you know that I am catching you and would appreciate it if you would move over so that I can go by but I won't tailgate.

I'm OK with people who don't want to speed, but please remember that the left lane is usually for passing traffic. If there is only one lane then there is not much you can do I suppose.

No. I don't slam the brakes. However, if your on a highway and going less than the traffic flow in a left hand lane then I maybe the one on your bumper. Left lanes are for passing not driving.

No, I don't slam on my brakes, I don't want to cause an accident. I actually just shake my head at them, curse them out, and ask them what they think they are doing! I know they can see that I am mad at them. I make sure I go the speed limit to really annoy them, and they usually pass me as soon as they get the opportunity, thank God!

No... You should slow down gently to increase the distance between you and the car in front of you (since you now have to create a double safetly margin for the pair of you).

If at all possible, pull over and allow/encourage them to pass you..

Let a cop see you do that and you'll go to jail.
