I had exactly this situation happen to me. I had worked for a community mental health clinic for 14 years and many things changed, including the philosophy of service. I was continually butting heads with the administration over client rights. Suffice it to say that money and billing became major areas of conflict as I was being asked to reduce service to those who could not afford it and several things occurred where clients were treated disrespectfully and when I informed them of their right to file a grievance and what the procedure was, I was labelled a traitor. It became increasingly difficult for me to function ethically within the setting, and while i hated to leave after so long and I felt very responsible to my clients, it was causing me to become increasingly depressed and impairing my ability to provide the highest quality of service. I left the agency and took a job with a humane organization, and although I was promoted I suffered a substantial loss in pay. Despite this, it was the best decision I have ever made and I am exceedingly happy where I am. There are no conflicts with my values or my ethics and I feel appreciated. There is no amount of money that can substitute for your peace of mind.

First, ask yourself why you went to work for the company in the first place.

depends on the ethical principle/value involved....

you find a new organization. For instance, if you're a pharmacist that is psychotic about birth control, and refuse to dispense it, then you can't work for a retail chain like Walgreens because it is against their policy to refuse birth control to customers. You'd have to either find a private organization to work for, or start your own.
