I'd talk to your doctor. You may need to lower the dosage a little bit, or make sure you're taking it early in the morning and not too late in the day. I'm on lexapro and I've only experienced a few nights of not being able to sleep. My doctor gave me a prescription for 25 mg. of xanax and if I can't sleep at night I'll take one. Oh and don't be freaked out by the xanax, if you are on lexapro you won't have to worry about any need or dependency for the xanax, they compliment each other, and after 2 months of the lexapro I haven't even wanted the xanax. Good luck!

The best medication to make you sleep is a good workout - go for a walk/jog, do some exercises.

It doesn't hurt for depression either.

I know that sounds retarted, but if you lay around and don't do anything, then you can expect to be depressed, and have trouble sleeping. On top of that, your body image has a lot to do with your self-esteem.

Not making light of your problems - I don't know what you have been through, but medications usually aren't that effective, have harmful side effects, and most of the time are just another way of covering up the real problem rather than dealing with it. Remember that your physical and mental health are both very important.

Good luck!

Lexapro (escitalopram) and the medicine it was derived from (Citalopram) both are commonly found to cause some sleep disturbance/agitation/increased energy. This seems to be a transient side effect and goes away after 1-2 weeks most often.

If it is an ongoing or intolerable problem, discuss it with your doctor. Perhaps another antidepressant may be better, or you might need some additional sleeping tablets.

The sleep problems do get better. Taking your pill in the morning will help.

It should get better after a while.

Took me three weeks to seem to sleep normally. I took Unisom.
