"What about British PM Blair and the nuclear subs? Isn't that the biggest load of hypocrisy you've ever heard?
Isn't it funny that countries like the US and the UK are perfectly happy to continue keeping their nukes, nuke subs, etc. and wasting millions on updates, while they actively shun and sanction other nations for attempting to do the same! I say practise what you preach! I'm all for total global nuclear disamament!!

Allibezuin reporting with just a pinch of common sense!"
To follow on from this, there have been some very interesting and informative opinions, however no one has mentioned the fact that there's only been 1 nation that has ever used a weapon of mass destruction against another nation - I'll give you 3 guesses as to who that nation is! I still believe that total global disarmament is possible, however difficult. I also feel that it is not 1 particular nation's right/resposibility to govern world policy regarding weapons, government, etc; it should the UN!!

I am American and you will not catch me howling. He is hypocritical. They all are. it is like watching children in a sandbox. They are like, " We have dominion and you cannot play in my sandbox by getting nuclear material and weapons" It is still mutually assured destruction but since the US wants to be the "conqueror" they want to be the only one with the capability to destroy others. "All hail the conquering hero-NOT"
The US is the only country that has used nukes to destroy yet the world is supposed to believe that they will use it responsibly. The world is uneasy because of President Dimwit and his propensity to start pre-emptive wars.
So countries that he has threatened say to themselves, might as well develop the weapons that way they won't attack me.

I still cannot accept the fact that nuclear weapons make you safer. Japan, Germany and Canada are just a few countries that have no nuclear detterent and they are not threatened by rogue nations. The biggest threat to the US/UK is terrorists, but they all operate underground, spread through dozens of different nations, Britain has its fair few. You cannot attack them with nukes. As for Iran, you don't need nuclear weapons to deter them, you need the UN to take action now, and they will never have WMDs. In the past (cold war) it was important to deter your opponent, but east and west are no longer enemies, and do you really think China or N.Korea would ever dare launch a nuke, not in a million years, they may be communist but what have the last 50 yrs taught us. No nation is stupid enough to fire a nuke. The US and UK must not give up their weapons now, every nation has to do it together.

Russia, China, and France have all announced their ongoing nuclear weapon modernisation plans. The UK and the USA are modernising their weapons to;
A. Make them safer,
B. Place protections on them to prevent use in case of theft
C. Use less toxic materials in their production
D. Make them more accurate and less powerful to limit fallout

Add to that the US will be making unilateral cuts to numbers below even the 1,700 -2,200 allowed by treaty with Russia.

I am not a big fan of nukes but I think those are pretty good points. Also, the US may be the only country to have employed nuclear weapons but WMD includes Biological and Chemical weapons as well. When talking WMD few countries can claim innocense.

you are spot on but as this board is frequented by Americans you will no doubt get howls of protests even though you are correct in that they are the only country to have used Nuclear weapons against another country (and yet they claim they are more responsible with them than anyone else)
