I would def say boredom too!!!! A collie needs mental stimulation as well as physical..they are bred for working and have a very active mind....maybe consider activities with her when u take her out or maybe even dog training?

I agree with everyone else. A "working breed" dog needs to feel useful by their owners. I have a hounddog/chow mix and when I first got him I bought loads of toys and chew toys and he still dug up most of the carpet in his room. Now that I take him outside to "chase squirrels" he has a smile on his face all the time...lol. Give your dog an activity that their breed is known for loving. Mine likes to hunt so I let him chase a few squirrels around the yard all day. Find out what activities your dog will enjoy specifically and give it to her.

i know everybody has told you that it's either sep. anxiety or boredom, i would suggest one of the 2 as well unless you're really sure Ruby gets enough exercise (this means physical as well as mental) collies (especially border collies, although if not specified you prolly mean a rough) really do need to be kept busy. best is agility, long walks, lotsa games like frisbee or ball tossing and then they have to have "jobs" to do cause their so darn smart. :-)

but if you're absolutely sure it's not one of the two, it might be a lack of some nutrient (are you feeding her a brand name food and the right amount of it?) if all these things aren't the case, then i would ask your vet, he might want to run some tests to make sure she's getting enough of everything but if they're all ok, it might just be a bad habit, like some people chew their nails. then it would just be a matter of telling her she shouldn't! good luck...

Ruby could possibly have a little separation anxiety. Either that or just plain bored. Try leaving a blanket that smells like you with her while you are gone. Let her know that her behavior is not acceptable. Don't yell at her. A swack on the bum with a newspaper and a firm no will get it across. If all else fails, crate her while you are gone.

Does the plaster have old paint on it? If so, it could be that your pup has found some lead ... and she will crave it, and continue to chew the walls. If it's simply plaster, then she may just b a chewy puppy!

Collies are intelligent dogs and intelligent dogs get bored easily. Get some of those toys with the snacks hidden inside, its sometimes take the dogs hour to get to the snacks and keeps them entertained.

I would normally say it was separation anxiety, bordem or lack of exercise but as you seem to have these covered it's difficult, I know that Collies need a lot of stimulation to keep them happy. Hope it works out for you !!!

She could be bored. Collies need a lot of things to stop them from getting bored. Have you tried getting her a Kong toy? They are toys which you put little treats inside and the dog has to work out how to get them out. We tried this with our retreiver and he loves it. It keeps him amused for hours, and its funny to watch him trying to get the treats out
