go straight to your GP, start acting like a chicken whilst slapping him with a live herring that should do the trick.

Psychiatric wards are not restful places. They are extremely stressful environments where you are watched quite closely, your freedom is restricted, and you have to be around a lot of other crazy people. It will harm your self-esteem and be another step away from the life you have to lead, ie back in the real day-to-day world.
Getting in to a psych ward is actually quite hard. But GETTING OUT is even harder.
You have other options. How about short-term disability, so you can stay in your home environment, and receive outpatient psych care?
Good luck!

Having never been, or never wanting to go, it's hard to say. But why not try this. Dress up in a Batman suit and run around town flapping your arms while singing "O Canada". That would probably get you a room. One with nice padded walls.

You need a referral from usually a GP or a Community Support Officer (social worker).

Depend's, are you suicidal? if so, just call & check yourself in- I've been in pshyc. ward's because a dr. told me to check myself in , don't believe he ever had to give me a referal,I just did it-but,if a good rest is what you need, you really won't get one there!maybe, away from problem's for a while, but you'll have to go back to them too. Those ward's are pretty messed up! They thought I was Bi-polar for 9yrs.!!!NOT! anxiety disorder & I saw how badly they treat patient's there, been in 2-please,don't EVER go to Fairfax , if your in Wa. they are soooo bad to the people in there I wrote a letter to their ceo-they had GLASS mirror's in bathrm,!!could'nt believe all I witnessed in there!! & I've heard some other horror storie's of other facilitie's(Calif.) so be very careful, before you leap.

this would be a lengthy process. you would have to be referred by your GP to a Psychiatrist.
If you are suicidal get yourself to the docs immediately
