Well, the first death is that we inherit from Adam & Eve, and from which we will be resurrected. (Romans 5:12; Revelation 20:13, 14.)
If one fails to be obedient, then they die again, not as a result of Adam's sin, but because of their own. This is the second death. The second death represents eternal destruction. We can see this by a simple comparison of a couple of Scriptures. According to Revelation 20:14 death is to suffer "the second death." NOTE: - "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."
What is to happen to death? The answer is in 1 Corinthians 15:26 - "The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death."
Death is to suffer the second death; death is to be destroyed.
Therefore, the second death = destruction!

Death, for us right now is inevitable because of our sinful state. If someone gets sick and dies. That would be a first death.
However, Jesus promised at John 5:28,29 that the hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs would hear his voice and come out. Those who did good things to a resurrection of life. Those who did bad things to a resurrection of judgment. What that means is that there will be a resurrection of all the dead after which they will be taught God's requirements for everlasting life. There will be a period of 1000 years during which they will learn what those requirements are. At the end of that period, if they choose then to be disobedient, then the "Second Death" would apply... death from which there is NO hope of a resurrection.

The second death is the one beyond our first resurrection.
Revelation 20; 12,13.
After being resurrected from being dead, those who comply with god's new system will continue to live in the flesh on the earth we know, but without death and sickness.
Psalms 37; 9,11,29,34
Revelation 21;4
those who do NOT comply will suffer the 'second death' from which there is no resurrection. It is total annihilation.
(REVELATION 21:8) “But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second death.””
Also being destroyed are organisations.and Satan himself.
(REVELATION 20:10) “And the Devil who was misleading them was hurled into the lake of fire and sulphur, where both the wild beast and the false prophet [already were]; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”
The torment for Satan is never ever being able to influence the earth again.
And 'conditions'...
(REVELATION 20:14) “And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire.”
SECOND DEATH=THE LAKE OF FIRE.
TOTAL DESTRUCTION.

It is when people realize that christianity, and organized religion, were all built on false premises, and have no foundations. Happy and Holy are the people who took part in the first resurrection, over them, the second death has no power. After the open letter was read to the seven churches that were in asia minor, they collapsed! That means they were built on false foundations. Second death. Little Apocalypse. The saints knew, that these churches, that were never supposed to be, would rise again. (When "Satan (realized) he had been flung to the earth, he was wroth with the woman, for he knew his time was short.)

Physical birth: you come out of your momma's womb
Spiritual birth: you accept God's forgiveness and the Holy Spirit gives your spirit life so you can be in relationship with God
Physical death: When you die and are put in the grave
Spiritual death: When you go to hell and are eternally separated from God.

The second death is the greatest tragedy that can happen to anyone. The first death is physical, inevitable and frees the soul/spirit from the body. The second death follows God's judgement . It's His eternal rejection of those who first rejected His Son and His free offer of salvation.
You use various terms - soul, spirit, essence - but I think they all refer to the part of us that is not lost on physical death. Whatever we call it, it is our self and this self will one day either be welcomed into God's kingdom or rejected by Him.

Revelation 20:14 says, "And death and Hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." The second death is the final separation between good and evil for all eternity; this is why death and Hell and etc. are cast into the lake of fire."

There is no death without life, and no life without death. Levels of consciousness can be altered, but only made from birth. Which leads back to life and death.
It's a perpetual circle that philosophy endures. And if you wish to remain throughout it all, make memories and tales.
