If your doctor has prescribed you to be on lithium it is usually for a good reason such as depression. If you wanted to give up taking your lithium, WHICH I DO NOT RECOMMEND, then you should first be in consultation with your doctor.
You are probably not feeling as depressed right now and thinking that you do not need to take your meds. Well it most likely has been your lithium, and perhaps any other medications, that got you back into feeling so positive and not as down or depressed.
If you stop lithium, as I have seen patients do, from my work in a psychiatric hospital, then you will in a relatively short period of time slip back into your depression and possibly even worse then where you were before you started it in the first place. So....
DO NOT STOP TAKING YOUR MEDICATION WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR. Maybe he or she can prescribe a different medication if you feel it isn't helping you enough.
Good luck and stay healthy. Enjoy Life.

If you give it up cold turkey the resulting symptoms can be quite horrible-fatigue, headache, possible seizures. Then we come to the resulting symptoms for the disease you are taking lithium for. If is bipolar, your disease will get worse. Your illness symptoms may never be the same as you are now dealing with. It is not a wise thing to do, ever. I would ask my doctor if you really are considering going off lithium, maybe he can help you stay on the medicine. (There are places that give you your medicine for free or for a small fee)

Well there is a reason for taking lithium. No one does it for the fun of it...I would think you be a little off, but why would you stop for a short time.....? I think if the mind is stronger then the drug (which lith ium is yucky & pretty tough) You could give it up all together.

I think you will want to talk to your doctor before discontinuing lithium.
