In some ways this is a very tricky question, and in other it is very simple. Let's look at it at a societal level and at an individual&environment level.

Societally
Teen suicide is a bad thing for society. Teenagers are the source of society's workforce, defence forces, the earners which the government will eventually tax and earn money from to disburse among the politicians and return to society in various forms. Decreased numbers of teenagers will only benefit a society suffering from overcrowding and will be universally bad for any other society.

Depression (the major cause of suicide) is a treatable illness and if a suicide can be prevented by application of money and time and effort in the form of counselling/cognitive therapy and antidepressant medications (or even electro-convulsive therapy) this is actually quite a small monetary amount compared with the earning potential of a teenager. Financially, the society loses out if a teenager suicides, and gains if the teenager turns their life around and becomes a productive member of society. Arguably, society doesn't gain very much if the teenager persists in being a non-contributing member or a repeat criminal offender.

Individually and their immediate environment
Teen suicides are a bad thing for the individual too. Given that they mostly have the potential to learn and overcome their immediate issues, the potential for a happy and fulfilled life and to spread this positivity throughout their group of family and friends, the teen who suicides loses out on personal happiness and settles for personal nothingness. Furthermore, they spread depression.

Depression, bipolar affective disorder and suicides do tend to congregate in families. This could either be due to a hitherto undiscovered "tendency towards madness" gene or set of genes (multifactorial inheritence is most likely) or to do with pessimistic/negative thought patterns being taught and inherited within a close family group.

When a parent or sibling with an underlying tendency towards depression/suicide then has their child/sibling commit suicide, this reinforces negative emotions and forces them further along the depressive spiral. Depression is a transmissible disease!

So - teenagers - don't commit suicide.

Wait till you are old and cancer ridden, having no remaining friends or family! Then you can off yourself privately and quietly, and let society and your environment continue on their merry way.

Their are no advantages. The disadvantages are you would never give yourself a chance at life to see who you can be, myself as a teenager I was really messed up never thought my life would ever go anywhere I have had a wonderful life so far I would hate to have missed it. Your parents would be heart broken you might think you wouldn't care but when you become a parent you might not understand yours any better but you will realize they love you if nothing else. Interesting project if you do your homework you can better understand "The darkest time of the night is right before the dawn" and then a new day begins.

even as an adult your problems are usually not as severe as you may let them seem to be

the advantage would be that life is over - your problems are gone - THIS leading to several disadvantages - life is over, everyone who knows you and actually gave a rat's *** now has to suffer, trip themselves out with guilt etc.

i't s also an advantage if your;'e a child molester or a rapist and you off yourself - THANK YOU - WE APPRECIATE IT.

1 in 3 suicide committers leave notes (don't ask for the source cuz I don't know it right now) - this can be to help the person find closure or tto exert revenge on someone, possibly by blaming them in the note ~~~~if it helps with closure for an estranged familymember or something, that can be an advantage.......

just a fact: There are like a 1000000 (million) suicides a year - this is more than all killed in war and those murdered put together...........

time to crack down on it? ==above stat is for everyone, not just teens

I can't think of any advantages to suicide. As others here have said, it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Also, words can't describe the devastation caused to the friends and families of suicide victims. I once read about a father who committed suicide, because he couldn't stand the grief he experienced after his son had killed himself!

Disadvantage is you're dead. Advantages are none. You're dead. Simple. You're project should have some other prospective on the subject. Like, why do teens commit suicide?

one advantage is that I don't have to see mopey teens whine, whoact like they are the first ones to ever feel alone or outcasted. One disadvantage, who will then take the place of the forementioned whiny teens and make my whopper or pump my gas

What makes you think there is any type of advantage to suicide. It's an easy way out of what some think is too tough. God only dishes out what you can handle and you have to handle it. Siuicide is not an option....Just think of all you leave behind and the one that hurt and think about what they could have done to prevent suicide.

Can't imagine alot of sources listing the advantages of suicide. Since there isn't any advantage to suicide that makes sense.
