What happens to a body after two weeks of decomposition in a house?

2007-03-15 02:05:07 · 13 answers · asked by vaguelydazed 1 in Environment

No, I am not a murderer and that comment was quite insensitve. I tried to trace my birth father and well I found out he died so I traced my grandparents and she said because he was an alcoholic he died of a heart attack and no one found him for two weeks. I feel so sick. The police didn't want no one to identify him but his brother did I think and they had to go on dental records.

Some people are ******* bastards on here seriously. I just want to know. I have never seen a photo of my father and all I have now is a picture of him in my head when he died. Just please stop this. I am really upset and I just heard from a friend who is a medical student it wouldn't be that bad but I thought he may have just been coming from the medical point of view which he was.

Please don't be distressed by the insensitive comments some contributors have made. I was a Crime Scene Investigator and those in the business so to speak do get used to such things and it kinda makes us talk about them from a purely factual point of view. When its someone close to you, you maybe don't want to know the details. Take comfort that as it was a heart attack, its likely to be quick - what happens to the body afterwards is just a matter of biology. Having been to more post mortems than I care to remember from both 'ordinary' deaths and violent crime, I would say the thing to remember is that the body is just an empty vessel - you get the feeling that what made them a person (soul? spirit? I dunno, I'm not religious) is gone by that stage. The body would still have been recognisable, but the rapidity & extent of decomposition would have very much depended on the temperature and humidity of the room.

Assuming room temperature and reasonable
humidity, the body will smell a great deal, there
will be open soars on it where bugs will be
trying to take it apart and you'll see signs of
oozing in some places.

However, the body will still be recognizable.
Smelly, but quite recognizable.

what happens is that the body usually gets burried soon after

Two weeks u start really noticing a difference on the body. They are stiff and smelly, eyes are sinking in. Especially if they are not treated. If they just sit there. Its gross. Why u got a body in ur room?
