To get to the safest place, get on an airplane and island hop over to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Lovely place, Volcano, black sandy beaches, white sandy beaches, beautiful people, wonderful food.

But then I'm biased.

Vincy's rule!

I've been there 2 years ago.It was amazing stay-for 14 nights on all incl. in Victoria hotel(Puerto Plata)There was absolutly safe in the resort of 15 hotels. So many security guards day and over night in the resort area.It is the best and only way to see capital or villages join ing in the excursion groups.Just go and enjoy!

Well, most places are safe if you know what you're doing. I live there and it's a safe country, but just be careful. Never leave personal belongings out of your reach(cameras, money, cellphones, passports, purses...) and don't go out after dark alone preferably go with a guy if you're a girl, because it's just safer that way. I would never walk anywhere after dark without an older guy going with me! these rules are applicable anywhere! But if you want to feel safe go to an all-inclusive resort but I must warn you if you do you won't get to experience much of the culture!at any large tourist area there are pickpockets. Go to the Puerto Plata/Cabarete area, it's awsome there, my favorite beaches on the island!!

My daughter, her husband and their 5 children have recently returned from a 2-week holiday in Sosua, which is in the Peurto Plata area of DR. They had a wonderful time and felt perfectly safe whilst there, although I must add that their accommodation was part of a large hotel complex. They did, however, leave the complex to see more of the area. (Their eldest is 18 and the youngest is 5).
