It might depend on the laws where you live, but in Pennsylvania all Workers Comp income is non-taxable, whether it's used for medical expenses or not.

Workman's Comp is not taxable if it was all medical. If you received a judgment for pain & suffering, that part would be taxable. Your settlement should state the distribution of the money.
