He is lying, stealing, throwing tantrums, being mean and failing school. He is 12 years old and going downhill..I am trying to help my future cousin-in-law and he listens to me but then goes home and raises hell.

He is crying out for some help or attention for some reason. What is his home life? Good or shaky or bad? First, find the nearest soup kitchen in a hard pressed area and take him there on a consistant basis for a pre determined amount of time. I don't know what it is, it's almost magical to see these kids hearts and eyes open when they see true suffering. If there are problems at home, he needs counseling, all public schools have counselors and some even have crisis counselors, call his school and check into that. He trusts you, don't try to parent him, mentor him by lovingly showing him the world as it really is. Volunteer with him at your local children's hospital or children's floor at the regular hospital. Talk to the nurses and ask who you could visit and read a book to, maybe color a picture with them, get local businesses to donate small "table top style" toys, these kids are sick AND bored, make them inexpensive so it can go a long way and pass those out to the kids. Find out how many are typically admitted and reach for a higher number of donations so no one gets left out and remember siblings. It's a LOT of work but it WILL make and impact. His future is worth it. We lead by example, not talking and "lecturing". There is a reason he is going "downhill", to find out what he needs you just need to find him HIS safe place to express it. He may not even know what's going on inside of him and he may be doing the best he can. He needs to learn the only thing in life he has control over is his own actions. We can't stop our feelings but we can learn to manage them. Who does he want to be? Help him toward his personal goal fro his character. I don't have a web-site but I know Dr. Phil's web site usually has some good stuff on it........try that. Good luck

I would get a hold of Social Services with your state. They have counseling available for both you and your child.

This is a Good program I had to use a similar one, and now both my children are in college and doing Great! Emotionally and in life in general.

Good Luck to you!!!! Patience think before you make a comment back to your child, make it a strong comment but one that they will have to think about. What state are you from??? example: http://www.lssi.org/

Go to www.aap/childhood disobedience.com this is the site from the American Academy of Pediatrics. All are recommended by them and have proven results but you cant do it- the parents will need to, as the child behaves for you.

Sorry no help with a website.

The boy's parents/guardians have let him down, like so many other children today. Now they reap the results.
