outside the movies you don't see real martial artists or legit schools teaching that "flip crap" except for "tricks".

Even then I'm not sure I would consider a school that teaches "tricking" a serious school. However that is a grey area and may not always be accurate, just a "guideline".

technique and "efficiency" are part of what allow you to connect and deliver more power.

If your teacher isn't teaching you HOW to deliver more power with your punches/kicks/strikes, you need to find a new teacher.

Know why boxers say they can kick the crap out of karate guys?
Because most of the time they are right. This is not due to any "better theories", in theory, any style that incorpotrates legs should be able to take out one that is only a punching specialist.
The answer to your question (and the "boxing" dilemma) is simply that any school that trains realistically, with fully resisting opponents (eventually you work up to it) and teaches you proper technique is going to allow you to "lay it on someone" without doing flips and stupid ****.

Many karate and martial arts schools DON'T teach you to drive your punch with your body weight. they teach you useles crap like "chambering" where you don't throw a punch with your shoulder, hips, legs, etc. your hand is the delivery boy, your body the dispatcher.

You want a safe bet for a style without getting drawn into a crappy school?

Go with a sport form first. Quite frankly it will change your outlook on what you expect from a school.

Don't be fooled- NO UNARMED MARTIAL ARTS STYLE IS A COMPLETE STYLE BY ITSELF.

For safe bets go with: Boxing, MT, San Da/san shou (chinese kickboxing- incorporates throws, not an actual style but has become known as such due to the sad state of CMA- chinese martial arts).

grappling: sambo, judo, bjj, pankration, freestyle, folkstyle or greco roman wrestling.

If you are looking to just "wallop" someone, I'm imagining you aren't looking for a grappling style. However the reality is that PEOPLE GRAPPLE TODAY. If you are looking to be a complete and well-rounded fighter, then I suggest you learn enough about grappling to get off the ground and on your feet again. "Anti-grappling" is bs that doesn't work.

not a militia question. there's a martial arts section on yahoo solutions. BTW there is not any superb artwork. All are distinctive have distinctive philosophies/strategies of battling. in lots of respects "superb" is in basic terms an opinion and would variety from guy or woman to guy or woman.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muy Thai....in doing a little research on these you will see that they do not do any stupid crap like flying kicks, breaking boards, katas, etc. You get to use what you learn against a resisting partner...about as real-world as you can get just short of stepping into a cage....but if you train in these you can do that as well.
