I don't think that a manufacturer should benefit from the wins a driver got with another manufacturer. Example: why should Toyota get Dale Jarrett's provisional starts and not have to qualify for a race? They didn't have anything to do with the wins.

I think they should stay with the team and not the driver. What do you think?

The team earned the provisional not the manufacturer of the car. Basically the car is just considered a tool to get the win. The crew built the car, not toyota. They also are the ones who have to know how to make it work and dale has to drive it. So they earned the provisionals.

BTW. I hate toyotas in Nascar. (just don't want you to think, I am a toyota sympathizer!)

I don't like provisionals at all, past Champion or not. I also don't like the 35 rule it should be the fastest 43. That being said, with the rules in place, I do think the Champions provisional should go with the driver when you consider the owner points stay with the team. Also considering how long ago Jarrett's Championship was, most of that team probably has parted ways, staying with the driver at least means someone besides the owner had something to do with the win gets to benefit. We see this more than just Jarrett, Terry Labonte driving the 96 for the first 5, etc. The only way to change it is to dump the provisional and the 35 rule.

Yes he should be able to use them, because they are personal provisionals. Jarrett won the championship so he get his provisional. I think it is a crock that NASCAR limited the total a person can use to six a year, knowing that Toyota would have problem qualifying.

Let's take your question a different way. Last year Dale Jarrett drove for Ford. Let's say that Ford had decided during the 2006 season to leave NASCAR leaving Jarrett to find a new ride. Are you not going to allow Jarrett to take his Champions Provisional to the Toyota team even though Jarrett had no interest in leaving Ford?

Well I for one do not believe in provisional.I think that the fastest 43 cars should make the field, and that NASCAR should do away with all the free rides it gives. This would eliminate the top 35 and all forms of provisional.
But that is my opinion. But as to your question provisional should belong to the team/car that earned them. The past "champion" provisional goes with that driver.
That's all I can say about that.

I think that a past champion should be able to use a provisional if he has to in order to make the field. Otherwise it should be the fastest 43 drivers on speed, not just the top 35 in owners points and the best of the rest.

Yes... In Dale Jarrett's example he gets the "past champion provisional". He is a former NASCAR WINSTON CUP Champion and should be allowed to use that provisional. Just because he now drives for Yota doesn't mean they should be able to take that away from him. I know you don't like Toyota, and apparently don't want to see them succeed in the sport... But remember this.. Change is inevitable. I say, Welcome Toyota and Good Luck!

I think they should get rid of ALL provisionals and let the fastest 43 start each race, each week.Get rid of that TOP 35 in owner points, too.

I think that if a driver moves to a different team or has been inactive for a while the past champ provisional should be limited to 5 races per season.

this is only for the driver, a perk of past accomplishments, no make--no model-- after it is all gone, then it becomes another issue
