Have been invited because I work with the parent of this child making the Bat Mitzvah and have never met the child.

18 is a lucky number in Judaism, and many people give gifts in multiples on $18 as a result. Depending on your financial means and your relationship with the parent, I think a gift of $18 or $36 would be a very nice gift.

It shows you took a little time to learn something about their faith, rather than just writing out a check for $25.

I would say, $50.00, but if you cannot afford that then $25.00 would be sufficient. Mazel Tov!
