I dont really know what happened. i turned my computer on and everything was fine until it automatically restarted. i thought it was just a one time thing but then it restarted after 2-4 minutes again, then again and again.

then i finally got this blue screen that says some device is not working and a bunch of complicated info on the screen.
i looked on windows support and it says its an "stop error" (and if i let it restart and let it sit there it wouldnt restart byitself until i moved the mouse or come back from idle) i have no idea what caused this problem.

is this a huge problem? how do i fix this problem?

thank you for your assistance.

i didnt install anything new and it doesnt seem to be a heating issue.

i am using the computer at the library so i cant really tell what the error message said but i can best describe as as saying "some device caused ur computer to turn off to protect from harming your computer, check ur bios, update your bios, go into safe mood, etc, then like you said theres the system32 message if i recall correctly its something with the .sys?
i'll try to get that message again.

PEOPLE! THIS IS GOING AROUND! It's a bogus message and nothing may have been installed. do what I mentioned below. Check the c:\winnt\system32\drivers folder for recently changed or modified *.sys files. I'd put money on the fact that one has been modified just before the computer started blue screening. Rename that file and reboot, you'll be fine.

what is the stop error code? Usually if you get the blue screen of death, it'll say something like stop 0x0000000f or something and below that it'll give a driver or file name.
Something quick and easy to try is to bring the computer up in safe mode, to do that, when it boots up and asks you to hit enter to load Windows XP (or whatever), hit the F8 key, then choose safe mode. When the system comes up, open up my computer and look in the c:\winnt\system32\drivers directory and look for any *.sys file that has been modified recently. If somethign has, rename it to something else and reboot. If not, check the event viewer and look at the system event log to see if there are any errors there, but if you get the blue screen error info, submit it and it'll be much easier to help diagnose and fix the problem.

I had that happen before due to a virus but it can also happen if your computer is overheating or there's a system error. You can try disabling the automatic reboot feature. See directions below. There's also another link that might help. Good luck.

http://www.compphix.com/rebootloop.html:
You can disable the automatic restart behavior by following these steps:

- Press Windows Key +Pause/Break Key to open the System Properties dialog box or right click My Computer-->Properties.

- On the Advanced tab, click the Settings button in the Startup And Recovery section.

- In the System Failure section, uncheck the Automatically Restart check box, and click OK.

- To enable the changes, click OK in the System Properties dialog box.

Did you install anything new on the computer. You might have to restart in safe mode and try to uninstall whatever new thing you installed.

You get into safe mode by holding down the F5 key at startup.

It could be a heating issue, a hardware issue or an infection.
Reboot to Safe Mode (with networking) by tapping the F8 key as soon as you see the manufacturer's logo, during startup.
