I am in Switzerland, and I can't find any self raising flour. They only seem to have plain flour here.

What can I use in my scones to make them rise?

No need to buy specialized flour, like self - rising flour, when it's easy to make your own.

Method
For each cup of all - purpose flour add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt

Baker's Tip: Store your flour in a metal cansiter with a tight - fitting lid. Use a permanent marker to write the ratio of flour to baking powder and salt on the inside of the lid so you will always have it with the flour.

A teaspoon each of Baking powder, Cream of Tartar and Bicarbonate of Soda added to the flour will give you excellent scones.

1 teaspoon of baking powder per cup of flour (baking powder is a mixture of bicarb soda and cream of tartar - so presumably a half teaspoon of each , although personally i would go heavier on the bicarb).
I have also heard of a recipe that uses lemonade as a raising agent but not sure of the quantities - will try to find it for you. Cheers.

When using self raising flour, do not add any of the following: baking powder, baking soda or salt. Then follow the recipe you are using.

use baking powder (if you can find it) but not much I remember making scones in primary school we put a tablespoon of baking powder instead of a teaspoon-the teacher wasn't impressed-20odd years later i'm a bit better at mixing the ingredientsa (but still eat the mixture from the bowl)

Btw: Absolut selfraising flour frei :-)
