There is quite an art to it but I got a free DVD from GHD that showed you the technique.
You take small sections of the hair at a time. Comb a section through hold it straight.
Spray with a protective spray. Keep hold of the hair at the ends.
Then about 3/4 of the way up (not too near the scalp) clamp the straighteners onto the hair then twist your hand as far as it will.
Then pull gently down the hair very slowly. let go and to encourage the curl use your finger to curl it. Took me a while but it seems to work.

From a hairdressers method of doing this..

I recommend using some curl syrum first on your hair once you've washed it.. Any brand usually works..
Then take a thin but inch wide of hair, and with the GHD's clamp the bottom of your hair, and begin to wrap your hair around the straightners, keeping the GHD's at around a 45 degree angle..

Continue twisting your hair around the GHD's until you get to the top of your head, hold for around 10 seconds and if done correctly, you should have a nice curl..

Once you've done all the hair you wanted to curl, spray some frizz spray lightly over your hair, following by some hair spray to keep it all in place!

It takes awhile to master, but you'll get it!
Good luck!

i think you ought to... besides the reality that I daresay it would be exceedingly difficult. Straighteners have the be conscious "on the instant" in them for a reason, y'be attentive to. :) i'm not sure how, for the reason that i've got not got a straightener or curling iron myself, yet once you like a tip that isn't fry your hair, get some old college curlers, wash your hair in the past mattress, then comb it out and wrap it around the curlers. in case you leave them in at the same time as you sleep they are going to have completed their artwork via morning. and you do no longer ought to moist your hair in case you do no longer choose to. :) (yet then i think you knew that.)

took me ages to suss it out too
you have to straighten as you drag down twirl round but straighteners have to be at an angle with your hair. about 45 degrees.
if you dont have the angle, you dont get the curl!

you just get the straighteners and curl it around instead of going straight down.

first curl the hair, then clamp the straightener as close to the scalp as possible on each curl, works a charm!
