you mean cheap energy...water can be a means of almost infinite supply of energy at this era, some cars & engines are using water as means of fuel. this is done by separating hydrogen from water & turn it to fuel.

The question is not only of cheap oil, it is also of increasing efficiency and looking at alternative sources of energy.

Look at the watches and cell phones - application and other things are bound to change with time.

Coal fired or steam engines were very inefficient - some had efficiencies as low as 35 to 40%, bu the electric motors used in the locomotives today can have efficiencies in excess of 90 to 95%.

Well technology for producing biodesiel from vegetable oils and even animal fats is getting cheaper all the time. However I wouldnt want to rely on biodesiel as the sole source of fuel. There is also a limited amount of fresh water in the aquafers.

I should think that people should be more conserned with running out of water than oil. After we NEED water to survive.

Yes, we can.

Bio-Diesel has already been identified by our government as a viable alternative to fossil fuels. Currently, the price per litre diesel costs about 25 rupees. This needs to be used as a mixture (20%) with diesel to run automobiles. However, this can be used directly in motors, generators etc.. To use bio-diesel directly in vehicles, the engines have to be modified slightly.

Also, our President Dr.Kalam has discussed in various fora about the suitability and viability of Bio-diesel for India. The plants that produce bio-diesel (eg. Jatropha) grow virtually on any types of land thus does not take away the agricultural land. Railways and some state owned Transport Departments have already started using Bio-diesel and Indian Railways started growing few lakhs of Bio-Diesel plants on its land adjacent to railway tracks.

In the future, hopefully we won't need to be pulling old dinosaurs out of the ground. Perhaps we as a species will come up with a more ecologically sound way to get around. Won't it be a great day when mineral rights won't be worth any more than Confederate money !
