Yes, an abscess left untreated for long enough periods of time can be life threatening by going down in to the bone and eventually in to the bloodstream. I saw an episode of Dr G (one of the programs on Discovery Health) about a guy who died from an abscess to his tooth that didn't get treated promptly.

I would recommend talking to an oral surgeon if you haven't already to see what they suggest. If they can't help you get in touch with your primary care physician if you have one to see if they can help you find someone that can help you deal with this wisdom tooth. Also, check a dental school if one is close by if you can't get to your primary care physician or don't have one.

Yes they can be deadly and your abscess should be taken care of. The infection can get into your blood stream and then you could die. Find another dentist, allergies are usually fairly specific, you are allergic to one type of thing or another, not all analgesics in general since they can have different chemistries. If you can't take ibuprofen for example, then codeine has a different chemistry and its cheap too. Or another opioid. Look for a dentist who will work with you.

absolutely you can die: http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=21458

people used to die from this years ago before we had easy access to dentists and before we had good antibiotics. my suggestion is to find a biologic dentist because they use less toxic materials. get a biocompatibility report done. find one who does iv conscious sedation. get the tooth pulled.
