I know they've been around for a while but I've only recently been to an airport and wondered if there could ever be circumstances in which a machine-gun be used with thousands of people present. Mr Al Q isn't going to be standing in the middle of the runway in an orange boiler-suit is he. Seems as useful as a chocolate tea pot to me , and could fall into the wrong hands.

I'm in Spain and its the norm here for the police to be armed at all levels. When they do road blocks, which they do quite often along the coastal roads, there are often 3-4 heavily armed officers, head to toe in black complete with dark sunglasses, standing either side of the dual carriageway, looking into the cars as they go by, sporting a side arm and a machine gun type thingy...thats very disturbing and threatening....

They are their to reassure the public that they are in control..but it will not stop a determined loony attempting something, but the public can help by not leaving their luggage unattended and reporting anything suspicious and that go's for train stations too

It'll seem like a really good idea if a well planned terrorist attack happens and they don't have a kind word as their only weapon. Honestly, is this a serious question?
