I own a shop, and have seen the same thing you probably have. All of the manufactures have been putting a distorted number on their mileage figures on their window sticker. The Government has mandated a new system to correct this oversight, if in fact it was an oversight. Telling us a lie is more the term that fits the bill. It is not just Nissan that has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar on this deal. I believe when the new regulations are put in place, more than a few jaws will hit the floor. If all of them have been doing this, then Nissan is not the lone culprit, and I wouldn't let it sway me one way or the other. I would just take about about 7 mpg off everyone of them, and you will have the ballpark figure to go by.
Glad to help out, good Luck!!!

There are several transmission choices for the Maxima each has its good and bad points. The CVT transmission keeps the engine in the economical rev range. Smooth acceleration but the feeling the trans is slipping drives a gear jamber like me nuts. Five speed automatic is a great gear box from the same supplier that Toyota uses. My favorite and hard to find transmission is the 6 speed manual. If driven properly most Maxima owners report 26 miles a gallon on the open road. and as low as 14 MPG in town.
