Well in terms of world records My vote is with Secretariat. The world record she set on 9 jun 1973 running the 1 1/2 mile was an incredible feat and probably will never be duplicated by any horse. The splits on her time for a distance of that length are incredible. so she gets my vote for best racehorse ever.

Secretariat is probably the best dirt horse ever. John Henry the best turf horse. Today's best horses usually retire after the triple crown races so the greedy owners can make lots of money on stud fees. A 3 year old horse is still an adolescent. John Henry's best years were between the ages of 6 and 10 when he was virtually unbeatable. Overall my choice is John Henry!

I have 2 ideas for this. Nearco, and his greatest son, Northern Dancer. If these two horses had never raced or been bred, there would never have been a Secretariat, a Ruffian, a Barbaro, a Smarty Jones, an AP Indy. All of these horses carry the genes of either or both Northern Dancer or Nearco. The influence of these sires is seen in every major thoroughbred family in existance today, and it continues to grow. ( By the way, both of the last 2 Triple Crown winners had genes from these 2 horses in their bloodlines.) Nearco also had 2 other very influential sons- Nasrullah, who was himself a Kentucky Derby winner, and Neartic, whose genes appear in the pedigree of the great Nijinsky II. Northern Dancer sired Native Dancer, who in turn became the grandsire of Ruffian, and is also listed in the pedigree of Barbaro. Bold Ruler, who would sire Secretariat, is also a descendant of Northern Dancer. The list of horses who descend from this line is very long, and it keeps growing. That's why I say that both these horses should be nominated as the "best ever."

Man O War (you wouldn't have seabusicit and a fourth of the triple crown winners without him) Heck Secaritaits "big heart gene" prolly traces back to him. He won 20 of his 21 races despite high handicaps and bad sportsmanship. He completed and won on both turf and dirt and seemed to like almost equally as well and was quite the stallion with his first five foal crops as the triple crows of calumet shows most of his prodigny.
Phar Lap would be my bet for the international title
just a note to cool d, quit calling ur favorite race horse a "she" he was a colt, a stallion. He won the triple crown (no filly has ever won it as filly's can only run in the derby and the belmont). The preakness is for 3 yr old colts and geldings.

I have to agree with Bonnie, it's Man O'War! John Henry, who just turned 32 last Friday (that's the same as 96 for humans!) retired as the all time winningest horse in number of wins AND earnings. Some records he set are still unbroken. Depending on how you look at it, it could be pretty even. (By the way Bonnie, the "large heart gene" is passed on by the female side of a horses line. Interesting no?)

The one and only Man O' War. I recomend reading the new book that is out about him. In it his groom tell the stable manager when Man O' War was a stallion and running all out in his paddock to stop him. The groom replied "That if the Best Horses in New York couldn't catch him then how could he."

Well thats easy.... Barbaro, Man O' War, and Secretariat. All of them were so amazing if I had to choose to bring one of them back I don't know who it would be. I knew Barbaro the most out of any of them but all of them were superhorses! So there is no best rachorse ever because there is many. Don't be forgetting the filly eaither! We can NEVER forget about Ruffian.
