Is the Heavyweight division truely weak? Or did anyone think there is SO much competition with Eastern Europe opening up? And a combination of networks (HBO/Shotime, etc.) having "their" fighters plus promoters involvement... PLUS WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF "organisations" holding back a true championship fight from happening due to what it may cost their company? No one thinks of that sh!!!!! How the HELL can anyone say the Heavyweights are "weak"? It is not the fighter's fault, and to say the Heavies are weak is an insult to Cruisers and Lt Hvy's for not stepping up. With all my angry ranting, what is you take on my opinions and questions?

Every thing you said was right, I totally agree with you, but its just not the heavyweight division that is f***ed because of the things you've said but all of boxing in general. Four or five world champions in each division what does that say. Roy Jones moved up to the heavyweight division, now I believe Antonio Tarver is moving up so the LightHeavies and the Cruiserweights are stepping up. Your right the Heavyweight division is weak because of the insider politics but so is the entire sport. You seem very well learned of the sport with your questions and answers as I've said before you might be a fanatic in your own terms but thats okey because so am I even though I was out of the sport for sometime and just getting back into it. Got a lot of catching up to do before I can even compare to you. Good Questions, Good Answers, Good Opinions.

I dont think the heavies are weak. The top 5 or 6 or so rated guys are great fighters. I think the weight class is SHALLOW. After you get past those top 5 guys the drop off in skill is dramatic. Used to be you had a pool of guys 20 deep that could match up is skill nad intesity. Now you have these 5 vets and a bunch of bums trying to win it with one wild shot. The division of the belts is also a huge issue, who gets the big side of the purse? Which rules will they fight under? What kind of crack will the judges smoke before they score the fight? Where do they fight? You dont see the big blockbuster fights that we saw even 5 years ago in the sport in this weight class. The time has come for some of the lighter weight classes to shine and they are doing it. We have week after week a matchup in the Lt Hvy or Cruisers that rocks....that keeps me a fan of the sport while the Hvys plod around and practice their swing for the fences and hug when you miss techniques......

Ric this is probably not the greatest time to bring up the heavyweight division after that great showing Ray Austin made the other night. That was one of the poorest showings in the history of boxing rivaling the second Ali-Liston fight in final outcome. I would also like to rescind a comment I made the other day about 4th rated heavyweights from the 60's and 70's. Wladimir would have a tough fight with Norton but I think he could beat Folley. I think the heavyweights of today do not fight good enough competition to get them recognized and they need desperately to unify those titles.

Ric, the heavyweight division is weak right now, because the top fighters arnt fighting each other. Maybe the top 4 or 5 guys are great fighters, but they need to get in the ring together and fight. maybe have a rematch or 2. Show some heart. Show a pulse something.

Sorry to leave the gauntlet where you threw it down Ric, but the Heavyweight division is truely weak. Chris Byrd is a pumped up middleweight, as is James Toney, and the European fighters are paper tigers. The best American Heavyweight out there is probably working construction somewhere outside of Chicago for 20 $ an hour, not even considering lacing up the gloves.
