Using a cotton bud I dip it in metholated spirits and apply to cold sore and hold it there for about five seconds. I use a different cotton bud for each application to prevent spreading. I do this up to 15 times a day. It helps to dry it up. I also use zovirax at night. Also using a cotton bud, not finger. Take llysine tablets to help keep them at bay.

Abreva. Abreva is the only over-the-counter treatment that actually prevents the virus that causes the herpes (cold sore) virus from replicating successfully, which means it will stop the growth of a cold sore in its tracks. It usually costs around $17, but it's worth it because it will last you for a really long time (you'll still have some left on the expiration date, which is about 3 years from purchase) and it will actually prevent cold sores from forming or getting worse. Use it as soon as you think you might be getting one. Read the directions---you only need a teeny amount at a time. Squeeze slowly, or a bunch will come out and be a waste. Save the shell package to store the tube, because it's tiny and will help you not lose it, and also because it's a metal tube that will get bumped and squished when you're not using it. Remember, you can have that tube for 3 years!
If you won't invest in the benefits of Abreva, Herpecin-L is your next best option.

Not sure if it is true but last time i was at the dentist she said that they can remove coldsores using the laser they use. She said they are gone by the next day. I had an ulcer on my gum that was there for ages and she used it on that, it was gone by the next day. She also said that ulcers and oldsores are sort of the same virus or something so that is why it works on both. It would be expensive unless you really needed it gone urgently...eg wedding or something.

In case it was viral infection it's like:
Treatment is available in the form of antiviral medications such as nucleoside analog, which reduce the duration of symptoms and accelerate healing.
Nucleoside analogs are molecules which possess a similarity to natural nucleosides -- the building-blocks of DNA and RNA. Because the replicating virus incorporates these analogs into viral DNA, the genetic material produced contains defects and mutations. As a result, the subsequent generation of virus produced is damaged and reduced in number.

Coldsores can be a form of herpes, so i'd recommend no longer kissing on your date b/c you may bypass it to somebody else. to help shrink the sore, use carmex or neosporin chilly sore cream. carry an ice dice to it to help shrink redness and swelling. Or bypass for your physician and get a prescribtion for it. i have not in any respect seen one disappear in one day, generally they take per week or so, yet sturdy success.

I would say get some cold-sore medicine and start putting it on right away.
