I don't know about immoral but it is definitely distasteful and shows a complete lack of respect for the dead...

Hi, Fast Food,

many people believe that war is morally unjust. However, to talk about the particular question you asked...

...If you were (and you possibly are?) a soldier engaged in fighting an enemy of your country and the body of an enemy soldier was in front of you-I see nothing unjust about, say, using the body to hide behind to avoid being shot yourself.

BUT...if you were to 'take out your frustrations, by dismembering, defouling or otherwise using the corpse in 'an inhumane manner' then what would you be gaining?
Your opponent, now having paid the price for his involvement in the war, does not deserve such treatment.

He, like you, would have been 'ordered' to go and fight and probably had no delight in taking part. As an ordinary man why would anyone think that mutilation of his body etc. etc. was appropriate? Would you want YOUR corpse to be maltreated?

The rights and wrongs of wars could be argued over for ever (and have been) but decent treatment of your fellow man should be the 'norm', 'inhumane treatment' is exactly what it says, 'inhuman'.

So, if you're human it is wrong...if you're not, then you wouldn't have the dilemma.

Peace to you,

BobSpain

Do you mean inhumane as in hiding an IED under the body in an effort to ambush and kill soldiers or civilians Or inhumane as in burning the bodies to stop the spread of disease. And even yes...the use them for cover when people are shooting at you?

The corpse of an enemy must still be respected under the customary rules of war.

It is rude but fun. Takes
the edge off the heroin and whoring
which the troops would otherwise be engaged in.

As a tender 14 yr old and her 5 yr old sister and
their Iraqi parents recently found out, USA troops
could do worse than play with dead people.

American boys will be boys. They do things in Iraq they don't do in Columbus, Ohio. Life is worth less there...right???

Yes, it is.

The person is dead, what would you achieve from being inhumane to a corpse?

It's wrong - simple.

It's the TOG rule all over again. (They're only gooks) Dead meat is just that. Do you weep for the T-bone steak you're woofin' down.? It used to be a living animal too. Grow up!
